West Yorkshire Police Faces Backlash blocks white British candidates from applying

But, as I wrote earlier, it should never be used to EXCLUDE an applicant; it would only be used as one of the many factors used when considering the applicant for employment.

Using race as any type of factor in a decision on who to employ is racist.

Pure and simple.

Anyone who supports it is a racist.

I'm actually pretty shocked that in 2025 people are prepared to admit to this belief. I thought the likes of Alf Garnet were consigned to comedies of the past. Not real opinions that people actually admit to 50 years later.

Those supporting this discrimination against white people - are you also campaigning for Farangs to be recruited into the Thai police force?

Lots of expats in Thailand these days, so presumably you think they should be represented in the Thai police (how ridiculous does that sound).

Or is it only your home countries that should entertain this nonsense?

Can you imagine doing a Hamza Yousef style speech here.

Thai PM - Thai

Bangkok mayor - Thai

Phuket governor - Thai

Police chief - Thai

You'd be laughed out the building.

The Libs are clearly not racist. They only support discrimination against white people so I believe that makes them "anti racist".  😀

And we certainly see through yours.

Despite all your protestations, the UK still remains a tolerant place where a person is judged on their character and ability with the VAST majority of Brits thankfully not agreeing to your obviously biased agenda. The idea that an ethnic minority is hired over a white candidate is purely in your right-wing, racist fantasy imagination to fuel some sort of dystopian nightmare that simply doesn't exist. People are idiots irespective of the colour of their skin - something you aptly demonstarte every time you post.

"West Yorkshire Police (WYP) is currently preventing white British candidates from applying for jobs as recruits to its police constable entry programmes. However, “under-represented” groups can lodge their applications early.

The process has raised concerns that white British candidates are being unfairly treated, amounting to a form of positive discrimination that could be potentially unlawful.

WYP has said the policy is to ensure that “diverse communities” are represented by the officers serving them. But former officers have accused it of effectively running a “hidden” recruitment policy that targets certain groups."

I don't recall the article talking about non British nationals joining the police force. I believe it said "those from ethnic minority backgrounds".

Are you suggesting Thais with Laos or Khmer or Chinese or Hmong heritage should not be allowed to serve in the Thai police force?

“Enabling people from an ethnic minority background to apply early does not give them an advantage in the application process, it simply provides us with more opportunity to attract talent from a pool of applicants who reflect the diverse communities we serve,” WYP stated on its website.

And this triggers grievance driven outrage from a bunch of people who don’t live in that community.

Would you rather not hear from those with any grievances that support those in the community? Sounds like you'd prefer to cancel them all out, a bit like WYP stated on its website.

I hope the backlash is less than I suspect it will be.

People can only take so much and many betrayed working class Brits are seething right now.

May calmness prevail.

You hope calmness will prevail and not result in backlashes in your own mind?

The force has stated publicly that early access does not provide an advantage in the application process and is only meant to attract a wider pool of candidates. “Enabling people from an ethnic minority background to apply early does not give them an advantage in the application process, it simply provides us with more opportunity to attract talent from a pool of applicants who reflect the diverse communities we serve,” WYP stated on its website.

Then why have the policy if it doesn't provide an advantage?

The advantage is that ethnic minorities can start their application and then submit it at any time whereas some white candidates were only given 2 days to complete their applications.

Having a longer time complete an application, for any job, gives a huge advantage as there is more time to review and refine the application.

As for 'simply providing more opportunity to attract talent from a pool of applicants', this just word salad management-speak designed purely to deflect away from the real reason.

Is there any reason why a farang that has become a Thai citizen can not become a Thai policeman.

Affirmative Action of the past and today's DEI are indeed racist, but they are racist in a positive sense. They are meant to right the wrongs of the negative racist actions of the past.

Anyone who supports them is trying to right a past wrong.

I'm actually pretty shocked that in 2025, people are prepared to deny the positive rationale behind these programs.

No such thing as positive racism, there is only racism.

At least you admit you support racism though.

Revenge politics never ends well. It just perpetuates grievances. The victims of todays "positive" racism will use it justification for tomorrow's racism, just as you use past racism as justification for todays racism. If someone attacks your mother, the solution is not to attack their daughter. It's a very uncivilized and unintelligent approach.

I'm amazed in 2025 people still see certain forms of racism as positive.

What I refer to as "positive racism" is discriminating FOR a group that, in the past, has been discriminated AGAINST.

I do support that. not only as concerns race, but as concerns all characteristics such as gender, transgender, country of origin (or origin of ancestors), native language, handicapped, physical defects, etc.

Affirmative Action was, and DEI is, not "revenge politics," but rather "redemptive social actions." These are used today to help right wrongs of the past. If someone attacks your mother, you should try to find out why they did that and then attempt to correct or at least ameliorate the situation so it will not happen again, whether that is concerning them, your mother, or both. That is the civilized and empathetic approach.

I'm disappointed in 2025 people do not want to try to correct the results of discriminatory actions of the past.

I agree, but isn't this EXACTLY what the Israelis are doing in Gaza right now? 😮
