That's the whole point, anything compulsory tends to be a target for profiteering.

 

They had this uniform for years right? Are people getting poorer or has this always been a problem? I didn't realize it was such a problem so if people really can't afford it then of course they need to go.

    I thought the uniform was part of the fun and made it feel more official and real. I'm sad to see them go. I always liked seeing the kids out wearing them and doing their activities.   How e

  • When I was a boy..... scouts were totally optional, something you had to seek out, not mandatory by any means. This was in USA. I did cub scouts, but didn't go for boy scouts... whole structure seemed

I think they should definitely keep uniforms, but only 1 style. Not a different one for every day of the week.  Gets expensive and if there are allowed to wear anything they want, there will be more issues with the “Keeping up with the Jones” and unfortunately some of the kids will start stealing the good stuff because they can’t afford it. Cheap enough to buy a couple uniforms for a week and call it done.

I was a cub scout and an explorer when I was a kid.  The Explorer troop was a bunch of juvenile delinquents and misfits - we had a grand time together.
