A video circulating on Thai social media has sparked widespread questions after it captured a pair of foreign tourists engaging in a public sex act in the surf along Patong Beach, one of Phuket’s most popular coastal areas.

 

The 47-second clip, originally posted by Facebook user Ingkarat Jindawong, shows a man and a woman appearing to have sex in the shallow waters of the beach, in full view of other tourists and beachgoers. The footage has been widely shared, along with a caption expressing frustration over repeated public indecency by some foreign visitors.

 

The incident took place in the Kathu District of Phuket, a hotspot for international tourism. Witnesses are walking nearby during the act, but the couple appeared unbothered by their surroundings or the presence of others.

 

Following the video’s release, Thai netizens reacted with a mix of humour, sarcasm and indignation. Comments ranged from jokes about sand entering uncomfortable places to serious concerns about the lack of respect for local customs and public decency.

 

Some have criticised the authorities for not taking firmer action to prevent such behaviour, while others lamented that Phuket’s image is being tarnished by a minority of irresponsible visitors.

 

Authorities have yet to confirm whether any legal action will be taken against those involved.

I can understand Thai’s or any nationality for that matter, being offended when encountering public sex. But why FILM IT?

 

Surely if offended the decent thing to do is walk away. Also report it if you feel the need to do so. Take a photo, film for 10 seconds as evidence. But stand there filming it for an extended period and then post it online?
