British passport renewal - British father deceased - Thai mother

Featured Replies

My friend passed away a few years ago (British). His son with a Thai mother needs to renew his British passport. She contacted me for assistance in his passport renewal. I expect it should be relatively easy due to him currently having a UK passport. Can anyone assist to tell me the process? My thought is using VFS for a renewal. Will there be any difficulties due to his father being deceased? They both live in Thailand but have visited the UK previously. Thanks in advance.

How old is he?  Over 16 he is an adult.  He has to use VFS.  That's the only option in Thailand.  And renewing a UK passport does not need anything relating to his parents.  It should be a simple process, there are agents who can assist in case of need. Go here and follow the process;

He is under 16. Is there any difference with that.

Someone will need to complete the application form for him if he's under 16.  I suspect using an agent will be helpful.  A copy of his British parent's death certificate may be required.

Should still be the same process but as mentioned above, someone else will have to make the application.  It won't be a problem, he is British.  Unless he really needs the passport it might be easier to wait till he's older, depends why she wants it renewed now.
