Catholic leaders criticize Trump for posting apparent AI photo of himself as the pope

https://www.npr.org/2025/05/04/nx-s1-5386516/catholic-leaders-criticize-trump-ai-pope-photo

"Some Catholic leaders and at least one U.S. Catholic group are criticizing President Trump after he posted on social media what appears to be an artificial intelligence-generated image of himself dressed as the pope.

Trump posted the image on his Truth Social account on Friday night, and shortly after it was reposted by the White House on its official X account.

Trump traveled to the Vatican late last month to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, who had died several days earlier at age 88."

Trump is a slug. But even for a slug this is tin eared. Weren't there at least nine or ten people around him who had the brains to warn him off against this sort of stupidity?

  • About 1.4 billions Catholics, 62 millions of which are Americans?

  • You just don't understand Trump.  He's not being serious about the Pope thing.  What he is doing is making fun of all the people who actually think otherwise .

[Deleted - can't be bothered getting involved with the Pro-anti Trump debates which take over these pages with a element of such stupidity its ridiculous even getting involved]

I'm a raging atheist myself so from a faith perspective it means nothing to me. But even so there's no doubt it hugely influential.

Waiting for his next one, the Prophet Trump wearing a beard, accompanied by a 7 year old girl and a goat; a DIY Mohammed kit - not that this would upset anyone in this free speech world

As he's quite deliberately surrounded himself with people who's only purpose in life is kissing his butt there just isn't anyone around.

And that's scary as hell because that means the are no grown-ups in the WH.

Yes, this is exactly the sort of thing a president should be doing! Beside golfing, of course.

Very soon, even the Republicans in Congress are going to realize they need to pass legislation to restore their own power over tariffs and spending. If they don't stop this, they're going to be vaporized in the midterms.

He is being very discourteous and just proving to to world what an ill-mannered uncouth vulgar President the US has these days.

Personally as an athiest the Pope's death has no effect on me at all but millions around the world are mourning and yet this insensitive heartless uncaring excuse for a man thinks its OK to make a joke of it.

Come to think of it, Trump becoming pope would be a good thing - anything to get him out of the WH is fine by me. Besides, this gig is made for him! Think about it;

- Very little push-back on anything he says and does.

- Lots of people coming to show their love and admiration at least every Sunday, where he can make incomprehensible word salad for hours on end to an adoring crowd.

- An almost limitless supply of nuns, conveniently all wearing skirts, so he can really dig in and grab their p*****s. And they won't tell because by extension it's the hand of god doing the grabbing.

- Or, if he finds out young boys are his thing then the Catholic church ass literally hundreds and hundreds of your of experience in covering up any "indiscretions".

Go for it, Donny!

Doing something like this just after the Pope died is a very disturbed thing, and yes, he was serious, as that's how a narcissist megalomaniac thinks. Untouchable, although he should have learned a lesson awhile back when he was shot at. He didn't, raising his fist, again thinking he's invincible. The highest position a narcissist can have is being the president of the United States. He was already a billionaire, and he wanted to be God, so the next step to this impossible task was president. With this latest endeavor, posing as the Pope, it's his way of showing he's getting closer, although even in his feeble mind, he couldn't have thought he could actually be Pope. Many still can't see him for what he really is, maybe because he helped them in some way, or that hero worship. He's a billionaire, so he must be good.

That's their prerogative, although I'm not sure they can pull that off.

Maybe the spending should be curtailed, especially the war budget.  Otherwise?  Maybe not.
