In all the years I've lived in Thailand I've only had one friend who has admitted that he met his woman in a bar. When someone asks where did you meet your girl he says oh my wife was a bar girl and she had actually been at it for quite a few years!

 

It's so refreshing to hear something like that. 

 

I have another friend who met a girl at the Nana Plaza Disco on his on his first night in Thailand, she was in her late 30s, she had probably been working the field for 15 years or more, and she was not particularly attractive, and yet he would tell people that she was a college graduate, a chemist and all kinds of nonsense.

I was still married at the time, so Yes it was the definitive sordid workplace affair, furtive kisses in the stairwell etc

I 'think' a lot depends on age.

 

Some 50/60/70 year guy old claiming he married a 20 something Astrophysicist is past laughable, she's almost always a bar girl of some variety.

 

The closer the couple is in age the more likely it is to be a usual male/female attraction thing

On the mongers forums you get loads of guys (late 20s and early 30s) claiming that found women 10 years older .........

As for them finding educated women, most of the expats I meet aren't educated, so why would they want one?

I lived with the lie that my Brit wife loved me for myself for 30 years.

Now I pay, and have no problem living this life.

Rimping supermarket, my card wouldn't work she paid for my groceries. That was nice took me home and said you need looking after.

Made me great meal and told me she was very wealthy and would I like to be with her. She was beautiful and perfect everyway.

Now back to real world

Another one is when a foreigner get sick when they just met a girl in Thailand, and she sits with them, care for them, shopping, cleaning and patiently being with them as long it takes, and do not want anything in return.
