snoop1130 Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Tilted canal walkway in Nonthaburi | Photo via KhaoSod Residents in Nonthaburi are worried about the safety of a dangerously tilted walkway near a canal, a situation worsened by the March 28 earthquake. This issue poses significant risks for students, the elderly, and bedridden individuals who rely on the path daily. The problem area lies along a 300-metre stretch of Khlong Bang Krasor, leading to the Chao Phraya River. Locals have observed significant subsidence affecting the concrete embankment, which is now tilted about 45 degrees towards the canal. The earth supporting the path has sunken by 80 centimetres, causing nearby utility poles to lean perilously. Resident Saisunee Koetnak reported that while the walkway had been leaning for days, heavy rainfall on May 17 further damaged it, creating noticeable cracks. The cause of the subsidence and whether the embankment was adequately reinforced remains in question. According to Saisunee Songkhananakh, president of the Wat Noi Nok community, the embankment's tilt started after the earthquake, and further weakened by recent rains. An exact cause has yet to be identified. Amarin Kitchatham, acting director of Nonthaburi Municipality's Public Works Division, revealed that an engineering evaluation found around 30 metres of subsidence. Plans are underway to consult contractors on the subsidence causes, while warning signs will alert residents to avoid the hazardous path. In a bid to ensure public safety, the municipality intends to work with a local temple to establish an interim alternative route for residents. This proactive step is part of broader efforts to address the structural issues and ensure safe passage for the community. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-05-19 1

Watawattana Posted May 20 Posted May 20 After a few beers I'm sure I'd find that path perfectly straight! 1

jippytum Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Convenient to blame the earthquake instead of poor construction. 2
PETERTHEEATER Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I agree that the compaints of 'bedridden individuals who rely on the path daily' should be heard.😋
newnative Posted May 20 Posted May 20 If they were really 'proactive' repairs would be under way already, or at least beginning. Instead, their 'proactive' just involves--you guessed it--'talks'. Which haven't even started yet. Always, talk, talk, talk. Or, in this case, talk of future talks.
Andycoops Posted May 20 Posted May 20 What a absurd report. How can BEDRIDDEN individuals get out of bed and saunter down a canal path, tilted or not...
