A mysterious blaze has engulfed a cannabis lab in the heart of Pattaya, causing a stir among tourists.

At 4pm on 25 May, Pol. Lt. Suthirapan Thapasi, an investigator from Pattaya City Police, responded to a fire at the "Smoke Weed" cannabis shop on Soi 13/2, Beach Road, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi. Two fire engines from Pattaya City were dispatched to tackle the blaze.

The incident occurred in a four-storey commercial building, with the ground floor operating as a cannabis shop and the second floor serving as a lounge for customers.

The third and fourth floors hosted the cannabis lab, where the fire originated on the fourth floor. Smoke billowed from the building, alarming nearby tourists. Firefighters worked for about 30 minutes before bringing the situation under control.

The investigation revealed that the lab equipment was completely destroyed by the fire. Evidence of an electrical short, resembling a minor explosion, was found near a power socket on the wall. The police have temporarily suspended the use of the building to preserve the scene for further investigation by forensic officers.

Ms. Pawarisa, 26, the shop manager, mentioned that she had only been working there for less than two weeks and that the shop's systems were not fully organised.

While working downstairs, a bartender from the opposite establishment shouted multiple times to alert them of the fire. Upon discovering the smoke pouring from the fourth floor, she contacted the fire brigade and police for assistance.

The cost of damages is yet to be determined but is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of baht. Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, Ms. Pawarisa observed leaks in the lab's roof during recent heavy rains, which might have contributed to the incident.

Trying to get up-wind ?

What lab equipment  I don't see anything but boxes of flower.

Those burnt boxes and the big tank on the right looks like a hydroponics set-up.  No soil, less water, and higher THC %.  But I don't see any burnt plants, so it is either just starting out, or they just harvested.

It'd need a lot of power to run, so I have no doubt something overheated, or wires got crossed somewhere.

What.

Supposedly, hydro grown weed produces higher THC content.  I don't smoke weed, but I've lived in N. California long-enough to hear the "talk".  If you know different, then I defer to your experience.

I don't see that in my experience. Most of the biggest and best farms I have visited were all soil grows....and I've visited a lot of grows in my time.

There are some benefits to growing hydro but there are also drawbacks. Any system failure can reek havoc on your entire crop.

The genetics and grower talent account for most of the the thc content in my own experience. Growing for over 15 years in Canada and Thailand have led me to that conclusion. Also I have many years of extraction experience that pushes me to think that way. I could be wrong maybe there is some science out there that would give us both a conclusive answer.

@SamuiGrower might be able to help on this. Hes a plethora of great knowledge.

Plus soil grows just seem to taste better ......but that my own bias 😆
