A recent poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) reveals that a majority of Thai citizens perceive their country's economic situation as critical, necessitating urgent government intervention. The poll, conducted on 7th and 8th May, queried 1,310 individuals from various backgrounds about their views on the economic crisis and the future of the "digital wallet" benefit scheme.

The data shows a significant 83.66% of respondents believe the economic challenges facing Thailand have reached a critical point. Meanwhile, 9.70% acknowledge the difficulty but argue against extraordinary measures, and 4.20% feel the situation is not yet critical.

Central to economic discussions is the "digital wallet" scheme, aimed at providing 10,000-baht payments. The poll indicates that 57.25% support the continuation into a third phase, while 33.90% oppose it. Additionally, 7.63% suggest deferring until the next fiscal year, with a mere 1.22% preferring a delay until 2027.

Looking ahead to the potential fourth phase, which targets the 21-59 age demographic, 62.98% of participants expressed a desire for payments to commence this year. Some advocated for a postponement of one to two years, though these were in the minority.

Despite public opinion, the government has opted to postpone the scheme indefinitely, considering a revival only under favourable circumstances. Public sentiment on this decision is varied: 54.12% are not angry, but 17.41% express anger, and 15.27% are very angry.

These findings underscore the pressing economic concerns among Thais and highlight diverse attitudes towards government policies designed to mitigate economic strain.

shows how high the percentage of idiots there are. other than putting the country into debt, what good has it done? any non-engineered stats out there to show the benefits?

To stop throwing money to their citizens might get crucial for Thaksin when it comes to next election.

Good chance for People's Party to win.

People are fed up with lies and corruption I hope.

PTP stitched up the majority of the population by promising to pay everyone over the age of 16 a 10K payment if they were voted in..

Broken promises people... broken promises.

Remember at the next election ballot

Folks if someone promised to pay you 10,000 baht almost every day for going on 2 years....And guaranteed the payment 100%.....And would not shut up about paying you 10,000....

I would expect you would be red with anger if they did not pay...

This not paying is a nasty back stabbing by a very corrupt, government...

If 10,000 baht would change your life, you have big problems.

Not to mention what this payout would do to Thailand's fiscal situation, or the consequences of being roped into a digital currency dystopia in exchange for such a pittance.

Subaru Suzuki Nissan have gone and the PM is running around trying to stabilize durian prices ...ffs stroll on

"a majority of Thai citizens perceive their country's economic situation as critical, necessitating urgent government intervention."

When has the government actually helped the economic situation?

First they understand their country is in bad economical condition.

Then they want the country give them more free money.

Thai logic at its best 🙂

Last paragraph needs adjusting, should read '....This not paying is a nasty back stabbing by a very corrupt, and totally incapable, never will be capable government...'
