Don't know, as I never use taxis, and if I did, I wouldn't talk with them.

I only ever see normal Thai people,

There's the San Sai cycling group, about 10 retired guys, we all pass and wave at each other. Then my wife's pals, all single moms (same as the UK). The neighbours, all middle class Thais, nurses, teachers, lawyers, managers.

 

Obviously I don't talk wth them much as they aren't from the south of England, but they all seem fairly normal to me.

It's what many learn when they talk with their friends, especially ones who have been with a foreigner and knows it's a possible money making scheme. The problem is some foreigners that spend a lot here, showing off how much they have by building a huge house, 2 cars, gold, cash to burn etc. Then the wife shows their friends what they have and they want it too, not realizing many foreigners don't have that extent of money to burn, nor want to,  so some are labeled as a poor foreigner.

Vietnam is 100x better than Thailand in 2025.

 

Thailand is going to lose out big time.

 

Forget the high season next year, it just aint gonna happen.
Too many cocky thais hustling on the curbs that are putting foreigners off from visiting.

and you can can tell them you are the president of some unknown country

here on a whistle stop tour of the temples  they won't know or really care  they are just trying to make some small time conversation...obviously  if you think

Went there in March, saw a few places and wish I could have stayed much longer. I will return. The people were all amicable to my girlfriend and I, helpful and smiling.

Can only hope. The way it is now is unsustainable. Japans numbers are falling and the country just gets better

Most want to know if I already have a Thai wife or GF. The conversation shuts down after I reply.

Get this often at concerts- where you come from, I say I come from my house. When they say welcome to Thailand I say you are welcomed to it. 😅

Maybe "Keeping up with the Joneses" was invented in the West.

And then with all the inter-racial marriages, Thais incorporated it.
