After reading through five pages of commentary, I realized that nobody had mentioned that Canada had recently purchased a 6 billion dollar air defence system from Australia. Here are the receipts: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/mar/19/canada-australia-arctic-radar-defence-system So, all this talk about a "Golden Dome" is utter nonsense, as Canada will have no need for it, thanks very much. Oh, one more thing. The Yanks cannot build the Golden Dome without the assistance of Canada, and considering how they've been treating us of late, they can go and F themselves. Sorry!! By the way,  if anyone disagrees that the US needs Canada's assistance in building their 'Dome', I suggest you have a look at this:  https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/23/trump-canada-golden-dome-00366410

Except it seems the Canadians were the ones who asked to be a part of it, so there's that.

Got any evidence to back up that obviously made up claim? It is true that Carney is willing to (humour Trump) discuss it but we NEVER asked to be part of it. Why would we if we've already invested in a decent and workable alternative?

I don't know if it's true or not, but it's the entire premise of the thread (seems you never read the OP).  That's actually what we're debating.  If you want to shift the grounds of the debate, maybe start a new thread.

You admit you don't know. That's good enough for me.

I shifted nothing, as I merely made it irrevocably clear that the thread was not including salient information, that being Canada has finalized a deal for over the horizon air defence with the Aussies.. The premise of many people on this forum seems to be that America has the right to decide Canadian defence policy...untrue, as the Canadian government does that. Frankly, we are sick of all the bullying and arrogance coming from Trump, and we'll do just fine without the US.

Anyway, you say it´s a great deal for Canada. I don´t think they care so much about 61 billion as a whole nation. If he said 610 billion then it would have been something. However, a minimalistic mind deals in minimalistic ways.

Very similar to the old joke

Old man to pretty young lady - Would you sleep with me for $10 million

Yes of course

Would you sleep with me for $5

Shocked reaction and What do you think I am? A prostitute?

Yes, we already established that, now were haggling over the price😅

So Canada is for sale to a fascist dictator, the lumberjacks just want a bit more $$. Interesting Gottfrid.

I don't know, but neither do you.  If it didn't happen then it's just Trump being Trump.  If it did happen, then it turns the assumptions in your posts on their heads.

Of course America does not have the right to make decisions on Canada's behalf, and of course Trump is being his usual bloviating self with all of this.  That said, you WON'T "do just fine without the U.S." and it's foolish to say so.  It would be better to get back to a more levelheaded relationship, for everyone's sake.  There are probably things (from both sides) that are long overdue to talk about, and if we did maybe we wouldn't resent each other so much.

I have to agree that we need to talk about many things, as the previous set up was very good for both nations. Also, you have a good point... Canada might be able to survive without the US, but our standard of living wouldn't be the same. With time, we'll work out our differences, hopefully in spite of the "bloviator" (is that a word?)

Then why is there a booming business in the northern states from Canadians crossing over to pay for healthcare that they'd have to wait for back home?

Sooner or later, you run out of OPM.

In the months since Trump was re-elected and returned to the White House, American doctors have shown skyrocketing interest in becoming licensed in Canada, where dozens more than normal have already been cleared to practice, according to Canadian licensing officials and recruiting businesses.

The Medical Council of Canada said in an email statement that the number of American doctors creating accounts on physiciansapply.ca, which is “typically the first step” to being licensed in Canada, has increased more than 750% over the past seven months compared with the same time period last year — from 71 applicants to 615.

'' The doctors that we are talking to are embarrassed to say they’re Americans,” said John Philpott, CEO of CanAm Physician Recruiting, which recruits doctors into Canada. “They state that right out of the gate: ‘I have to leave this country. It is not what it used to be.’”

I like the Australian logic of banning semi-automatic weapons. It has resulted in 3 mass shootings in 30 years, compared to depressing  regularity in the USA.

Medicare and the PBS in Australia covers everyone. The medical system in America is a sh!tshow.

We are not so illogical as to elect a convicted felon as our leader.

Congratulations, you have attained a new level of posting stupidity.

I am wondering if 3 mass shootings in 30 years in a country with a 25m population is better or worse than the American situation? You need to add in deaths/injuries from nutcases that used other weapons like cars and blades.

Who exactly has attained a new level of posting stupidity? Rich coming from one if the most notorious conspiracy theorists on the forum.

IIRC one could be sentenced to transportation for stealing a loaf of bread to feed themselves. Hardly the sort of crime Trump was convicted for.

There were people transported to Australia's for committing far worse crimes than what  Donald Trump did

Please do post examples of the conspiracies you think I theorize about, I can always use a good laugh.

You were famously one of the loudest voices on the "Hunter Biden laptop is the new pizzagate" thread of which I have a hard copy. Serves as an easy reminder of which posters have credibity and integrity and which dont.

I think you are confusing me with someone else, I have treated the Hunter Biden situation as a nothing burger, and can't recall posting anything of substance on said topic.

Which means either I am senile, or you are. I don't think it is me.

Post your hard copy of the thread.

I get tired of people  who deny Trump is a criminal, sexual predator, grifter and blowhard who dodged military service with a fake medical condition.

To give him his due, he is highly skilled at manipulating people of low intelligence into believing in promises he will never keep.

In a groundbreaking military cooperation exercise, Norway took control of U.S. GBU-53 glide bombs launched by F-15E Strike Eagles, demonstrating a network-enabled weapon system where Norwegian soldiers guided the bombs towards designated targets. This test involved two F-15Es dropping the GBU-53s, with Norwegian soldiers then taking control via a network, receiving updates from a P-8 Poseidon and other sensors to adjust the bombs' trajectory. The test, codenamed "Jotun Strike," highlighted the potential for real-time control of weapons across a network of sensors, command systems, and platforms.
