It's not easy when all the English she hears is from me and TV. She's learned English and Thai since birth and that's the best time to learn two languages, although Thai won't be used once we leave. If she's a year behind she can catch up fairly easily. That's why I need to leave asap.

He went to kindy here, then on into elementary school and up the ladder. We wanted him to go to school here, not in Canada. It was also far easier to grow up bilingual here than in Canada IMHO.

Once a topic is started it is generally speaking open to wind its way through the labyrinth of user responses, You have birthed a discussion that goes where it will. Possibly the most "off topic" response is to continually grouse that responses are off topic. Yeah threads going off topic is evolution, makes sense to me once everything has been said already a few times
May 29, 2025May 29 There's a bar on Walking Street doing bottles of beer at around 40 baht a bottle with a decent rock band playing.
May 29, 2025May 29 The burning question is 'Is it worth either price?' I'm not familiar with this beer 🤔

And not that expensive.

Yes, but she'll have a much better chance of a good career living in the US, meeting a decent man, and for myself, living in a country where I can enjoy my hobbies and freedom being a citizen.

In the proposed 51st state!!!, it is 18 or 19 depending on the territory. And 18 in Greenland.

Thanks, I stand corrected, I turned 21 in 1981, and I grew up in Pennsylvania and remember I could go to New Jersey and buy beer at 18. I guess after I was 21, I didn't pay attention anymore. I learned something new today, so the day was not a waste.

I turned 15 in 1962 in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, in the North of England, having started my first band. At the club where we rehearsed, Whitbread Tankard was 1/6 a pint, that's THB 37 !!! . Still going strong 62 years later.

It’s the same in most Western countries at the supermarket since Thailand grossly overtaxes its alcohol. If you found out how cheap alcohol is in the UK compared to here, esp in certain pubs and for decent wine, you’d wet yourself.

Personally I think it is undertaxed, considering all the health issues alcohol causes, and the universal healthcare has to pay for treatment of. You overindulge, you pay taxes more than under indulgers, to treat your ailments that are self inflicted. Works for me 😎
