Arriving at Dubai airport I went through the normal security check, then boarded the bus to go to another part of the airport, then had to go through all the rigmarole again for a second time for my plane to Glasgow.

Why two security checks at the same airport? I only had to do one on my return flight to Bangkok.

Anyone else ever experienced this?

Yep, did BKK-DXB-MAN last month. Checks at both securities. Safety first.

No buses between terminals, all on automatic trains.

Yes trains but I'm sure it used to be buses. If it is safety first, then why not on the return flight?

Have you come back yet?

I think Emirates has their own terminal, so if you change airlines, I think you'd have to change terminals.

Checking in, Immigration, and customs are all much, much better in the Emirates terminal.

The more security the better especially in Arab states.

Do the security checks make you feel more secure?

When I landed in Doha, Qatar, from Bangkok with Qatar Airways to catch a Qatar plane to Manchester, they made us go through security again.

This seems to be when I fly on the 777 or 787.

However, the last two times I have flown in from Bangkok on the A380, we have bypassed security in Doha.

Doha has a system where some origins are considered "safe" and these will randomly get to skip security.  All other transits have to go through the security check, with USA (and Aus?) getting a further scrutiny at the gate.

My origin is always Bangkok.

So sometimes they send me through security but never when on the A380

You should not have to go through this security rigmarole twice within an hour in the same airport using the same airline. Do any other airports in the world carry on like this?

Yes.

I'd say if you got through security twice within an hour you did pretty well.

No! Not the same security, a different one nearer to where I get my plane. I ask again, do any any country's in the world carry on like this?

Most of the airports I've used in China do a cursory security check to get into the airport then a more thorough check to get into the departure gates.  The cursory check to even enter the airport varies by the airports.  Some just swab for explosives.  Others x-ray bags and do a pat down, just to enter the airport.

I say again, Yes.

I'd say if you got through two separate security checks twice within an hour you did pretty well.

If I remember correctly BKK has secondary security checks at gates for some routes.

Yes, travel Bkk to Melb. Aust. you go through security and then at boarding gate have to submit all carry on to another security team. This is in same terminal and always happened.

They used to set up a table in front of the actual gate and do rechecks.  But I haven't seen that Post Covid.

I don't know whether they focused on certain routes, or if they were randomly selected.  Also don't know if they still do them, but I haven't been rechecked in the past 2 years flying once a month.  I used to get rechecked on occasion before the shutdowns.

Yes, but they are doing two separate things, I was talking about doing the same exact check twice.

Emirates. The checkouts were twice in three hours. Why do it twice going one way and then only once on the return flight?

Oh, you said one hour before, three hours makes more sense.

Yes one hour on the return flight, three hours on the outward flight.

That second hand-luggage check before being allowed in the check-in area to your plane heading for Australia, is not a 'security' check.

On my recent direct flight to Melbourne from Bangkok with JetStar, they confiscated or emptied all water-bottles before allowing you in the check-in area.  The reason being to force you to buy drinks on that 9-hour flight (and they do not provide free water on request, like all other airlines do).  Note that they do provide you with a 10 AUS $ voucher, which you can use sufficient for 1 small meal (or snack) and beverage.  Being used to the generous meals, drinks and free extras on Emirates flights, I was rather bemused by that 'service'.

Oh, I was confused. When you said: "You should not have to go through this security rigmarole twice within an hour in the same airport using the same airline.", I thought you meant you got through security twice in an hour.

I am also confused about the chain of events. Were you connecting though Dubai or was that the origin?

I think the answer to your query has to do with 'more than just the routing you took through the airport'...

i.e. there could be other 'transit passengers coming in from other terminals which have no 'arriving security' i.e. the FlyDubai Terminal 2 etc...
