Phuket solidifies its position as the top southern tourism destination in Thailand, generating an impressive 188.9 billion baht in just the first four months of 2025. Known as the "Andaman Pearl," Phuket's appeal among beach enthusiasts and luxury travellers remains unmatched.

Recent data from the Public Relations Office Region 6 highlights Phuket as the leader in tourism revenue among southern provinces, with Surat Thani and Krabi emerging as noteworthy challengers. These figures reflect both domestic and international tourists' enthusiasm for Phuket's pristine beaches, opulent resorts, and diverse activities.

Phuket's earnings significantly outpace its competitors, with Surat Thani and Krabi bringing in 49,162 million and 36,416 million baht, respectively. Surat Thani's famous islands—Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan, and Koh Tao—draw nature lovers and partygoers, while Krabi's Railay Bay and Koh Phi Phi offer captivating natural beauty and adventure.

Southern Thailand's tourism industry shows promising growth, with high performance in Phuket and potential in secondary provinces. The region's sustained success hinges on sustainable tourism practices, infrastructure improvements, and strategic marketing.

Despite a slight 2.55% drop in Thailand's overall tourist numbers from January to May compared to last year, a recovery is underway. Increased visitors from India and Singapore, alongside government initiatives like the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 campaign, are expected to bolster tourist influx by easing travel processes.

The top five source countries for tourists to Thailand remain:

  1. China: 1,890,929 visitors
  2. Malaysia: 1,799,423 visitors
  3. Russia: 947,352 visitors
  4. India: 935,256 visitors
  5. South Korea: 654,261 visitors

With strong governmental support and strategic investments, the southern provinces are poised to enhance their niche markets, ensuring continued growth and prominence on the global tourism map.

Summary of Tourism Income in Southern Thailand (Jan–Apr 2025):

  • Phuket: 188,991 million baht
  • Surat Thani: 49,162 million baht
  • Krabi: 36,416 million baht
  • Phang Nga: 20,079 million baht
  • Songkhla: 16,648 million baht
  • Nakhon Si Thammarat: 5,651 million baht
  • Satun: 4,734 million baht
  • Trang: 3,271 million baht
  • Yala: 2,573 million baht
  • Chumphon: 2,530 million baht
  • Narathiwat: 1,609 million baht
  • Phatthalung: 1,441 million baht
  • Ranong: 1,183 million baht
  • Pattani: 671 million baht

The dynamic and thriving tourism sector in southern Thailand promises a bright future, with 2025 shaping up to be a pivotal year for continued success.

Stretching it a bit...

Yeah right. Full of cossack draft dodgers. I avoid like the plauge now. Been a s******e for many years now.

I wonder why the news was different from my friend that owns a shop in a popular Phuket tourist area.  Business is real real slow in the whole area.  Only a few are making it right now.
