Tourism Thailand Ramps Up Tourism Safety Measures Amid Crackdown on Illegal Operations

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is intensifying efforts to make Thailand a safer and more reliable destination for international visitors, with a range of new safety and service measures now being rolled out nationwide.

 

In a statement released on 1 June, by the Department of Public Relations, officials said the move was designed to restore tourist confidence in the country following concerns raised by recent online rumours, which the Ministry has confirmed were unfounded and unrelated to the tourism sector.

 

Key initiatives include round-the-clock security patrols in major tourist areas, enhanced airport arrivals support and real-time assistance via a dedicated app. Travellers can also access help through the 1155 tourist police hotline, available 24/7 in multiple languages.

 

To ensure fairness and improve service quality, the government is also working with airlines to boost the number of flights to and from Thailand. Fuel tax reductions are being considered to help reduce airfares. At the same time, authorities are monitoring hotels, transport services and tour operators to ensure transparency and uphold standards.

 

A major crackdown is now underway on illegal tour operations and unlicensed guides. Central to this is the work of the Joint Operations Centre for Combating Nominee Tourism Businesses (JOCN), a task force targeting foreign-owned businesses that operate under the guise of Thai ownership through nominee arrangements, a practice that violates the law.

 

“Thailand must be a destination where tourists feel safe, receive quality service, and enjoy meaningful experiences,” said Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports, Natthriya Thaweewong.

 

The initiative is part of a broader government drive to revitalise the tourism industry and reinforce Thailand’s reputation as a world-class travel destination.

The more crackdowns and measures Thailand does, the less attractive it becomes for tourists.. So called measures for safety are only meant to control, but the real danger is in the daily traffic violations by millions of Thais, as no helmets, speeding, drunk driving, all because a lack of enforcement of any law by the RTP. That is the only institution that can make things safer and better but it fails in every field. 

And with no investment in the tourist sector facilities, they will loose more and more.. Stop with the outdated laws, review them and enter the 21st century.  Thailand doesn't want foreign guides as the job is protected for Thais only and same for touroperator businesses,.. Only a business can open if the foreigner has the 3 Thais who will have 51% of the money.. So If I want a business with my money I will get the minority share.. and only foreigners can hired 1 on 3 Thais.. Just to say no wonder there are all kind of loopholes as it is not of this century anymore...

How many times we have heard this?

 

Many of the most dangerous aspects of the country are impossible to fix. Thailand lacks the will, there are secret vested interests.

 

Most importantly, unless the tourist police fall under this ministry I don't understand how they have any enforcement capability whatsoever. Moreover, tourism police will have no authority over some of the worst offenders which will be Thai Nationals.

Amazing how a focus on safety standards segways into nominee shareholders and foreigners working without permits.

 

They just can’t get past the perceived injustice of foreigners being in Thailand. By all means prosecute foreigners who break the law, but if trying to improve safety standards, do things that improve safety.
