2025 SSA Form 7162 - "Hello, are you dead yet?" forms.

Featured Replies

Is there a phone number to call Wilkes-Barre specifically about details/confirmation about sending the 7162 form such as OK to send by DHL, Fedex, or Courier to the non PO box office address?

Not a national customer service number. Specific to Wilkes-Barre and the form.

Social Security Field Offices as of 10/29/2019

WILKES-BARRE PA (866 686 9505) 570 826 6226 -- 570 is W-B area code

https://www.ssa.gov/foia/resources/proactivedisclosure/2019/Direct Contact Information for all SSA Field Offices as of 10-29-2019.pdf

There is an office there for standard SSA services. I'm looking for a contact specific to their processing 7162 function which is unique.

For those wanting a SSA number to call to ask "has my 7162 arrived...has it been accepted....has it be processed....etc.," I'm pretty sure none exist as SSA Wilkes Barre would have to hire an additional 100 temporary customer support agents for a few months each year to answer all the calls of "is it there yet?"

FedEx ain't going to have any problem finding the Wilkes Barre Data Ops Center....I expect they deliver hundreds of FedEx envelopes every day this time of year from those folks around the world that want to use Fedex to send their 7162 back each year.    And I have no doubt that FedEx delivers it to the facility's mail processing center or building security office which you ain't going to find any public number for.   It's kinda like when you mail something to the US Embassy - Bangkok the Thai postman/FedEx/etc  leaves the mail at the security guard center (who are authorized to sign for mail) where the Embassy post office personnel come back and pick it up a couple times per day for distribution within the embassy.

Just provide the SSA main phone number of 1800-772-1213 just to satisfy the FedEx clerk accepting your envelope.

I still have two copies of the form from last year. It is making me nervous that this year's hasn't arrived yet. I'll wait some more, but if necessary, I'll just mail in the copies I made last year.

With new dates ?

Which address would you suggest using for Fedex?

The po box address or the street address?

Does your confidence about this extend to DHL as well?

Thank you.

Street address.  DHL is on my sh$$ list due to some incoming shipments to Thailand issues I've had with them in the past...so I now avoid using them for anything.

Ouch.

I hit a nerve.

I'll put it this way.

Assuming DHL got it to the address correctly there would no difference, yeah?

Why?

For many of us DHL offices are more convenient than  Fedex.

I checked with FBU Manila by email and they advised me to use this address for sending the 7162 form by courier:

Social Security Administration

Wilkes-Barre Direct Operations Center (WBDOC)

Attention: FEQ  Analyst -- Courier Service

1150 E. Mountain Dr. Room 341

Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702-7997, U.S.A.

Hope this helps,

So, do you put a sicker with this address over the one of the provided envelope?  Sorry if this is a silly question.

Put the SS envelope in the courier envelope and complete the courier address label with the provided address.

Chat GPT says:

DHL

  • Current status: Due to recent U.S. regulations (April 2025), DHL is not accepting consumer shipments under $800 in value to the U.S. unless it is business-to-business.

  • Result: This makes DHL not a viable option for mailing your SSA form.

FedEx

  • Service availability: Fully operational for consumer shipments to the U.S.

  • Delivery time: Typically 2–4 business days from Thailand to the U.S. with FedEx International Priority.

  • Cost: For a light envelope (40 g), usually ฿1,200–฿1,800 (USD $35–50) depending on service and insurance options.

  • Reliability: Good tracking and reliable delivery, which is important for time-sensitive government forms.

Is this information incorrect?

Use DHL, FedEx,..."whatever commerical delivery company" a person wants to use.

Probably  not correct.  Preaching to the choir regarding a lot of AI engines that many times base answers given on questionable/outdated sources.

I just went to the DHL Thailand website to check the cost of a shipment to the U.S. and it gave an estimate which "should" mean they are shipping to the U.S.   And I didn't see any notices they were not shipping to the U.S.

That's the same address when using a courier service (i.e., Fedex, DHL, etc) that below website recommends to those living in Mexico....supposedly the website got the info from the US Embassy - Mexico.

Yeah, they seem to be wrong or out of date fairly often. I've got the paid version. I'm probably wasting money. 🙄

Thanks for the updates info.

IF I ever get my form, I'll check that out.

I'm also waiting for a return email from FBU. How long do they usually take to respond or does it vary wildly?

The forms are still arriving. I haven't received mine yet, but another buddy in Phuket got his yesterday. He has a street address, not a PO Box.  I sure hope mine gets here soon... get this freaking drama behind me.

I haven't gotten my form yet, so my window of mailing opportunity is getting smaller.

However, the plan to send to my brother seems potentially flawed because it will show that the form was mailed within the US and not from Thailand. I don't know if a 'cover letter' would satisfy Wilkes-Barre... who knows?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the clowns running this show actually TOLD US WHAT THEY WANTED??? [Rhetorical question]

Maybe the FBU in Manilla will have some insight soon.  I doubt it. They don't seem to really care about doing their job well. We're (potentially) screwed.

no problem:

I sent a downloaded form as this is what i was advised to do back in 21 by Manila

"The Annual Report Form (SSA-7162 / SSA-7161) is generally mailed to beneficiaries in June or July. A second notice is mailed around October or November. You need to wait until the end of November for your yearly form. If by then you still have not received it, please do inform us via email and we will give you further instructions. Social Security Administration
"The annual questionnaires should be sent to the office in Wilkes Bare PA.If you have not yet received the barcoded 7162 form, please wait until the end of November. There is a second mailing this September/October.

"However, the plan to send to my brother seems potentially flawed because it will show that the form was mailed within the US and not from Thailand. I don't know if a 'cover letter' would satisfy Wilkes-Barre... who knows?"

Since Thai postal postmarks aren't possible since mail to the US is banned, you could make a comment to that effect in the comment box 2nd page. Also, the physical address is recommended by SSA so don't worry about using it for courier service.

4162 being retuned. Mailed a downloaded copy back in July and now it is coming back

some reason. The original was mailed regular airmail on 22 Aug 25. Very strange.

For the current form what is the exact final due date for it to be received by SSA?

60 days from July 31st, so Sep 29th.

Has anyone confirmed whether there will be a 2nd mailing after this expiration date?

My wife went to the three main post offices in Phuket Town. Mine is still missing. 🤦

Her friend at the post office also said they require an email address for the receiving end. This is for Thai Courier. Has anyone else had to do that? What email did you use?

You mean the 7162? Maybe because they aren't yet accepted w/o barcode? Did you finally receive your 7162? Not sure, but most likely the three (one for me and two others) I sent in July were put in the round file.

Wow! Then mail was suspended 22 August. I guess an inch is as good as a mile. I think you're going to be fine. Mine went out 8 August. I'll email Manila for confirmation next week I think.

I think you mean you mailed it "registered airmail" since registered mail includes tracking  as you show above but regular airmail does not include tracking and special handling.

Once you get it back if it has a label like below on it then some USPS mail sorting/processing machine misread/couldn't read the delivery address and rejected it back to sender.

Just an update, I sent mine Monday by DHL, it has cleared customs in the U.S. and is on its way to the final destination.
