SONGKHLA –  A husband appeals to the media over concerns of injustice after his wife was fatally struck by a speeding Porsche Cayenne, pulling her body for 300 metres. The incident, met with threats urging the husband to drop charges, has yet to see the driver questioned or charged by local police.

On 8th June, Supachai Suwannarat's wife, Tongurai Bamna, was killed instantly when a black Porsche Cayenne rear-ended her motorcycle on Kanchanawanich Road, Songkhla. Shortly after, an unknown caller pressured Supachai's mother to withdraw the police report, offering to settle outside court to avoid formal proceedings.

Supachai reported the case to the media fearing that justice might not be served. The accident occurred just before the Samrong traffic light junction in the Khao Rup Chang area. No alcohol test was conducted on the driver, who was described as intoxicated and absent by the time police arrived.

The media visited Supachai's residence, where his mother, Chawiwan Sangkhakul, and Supachai were visibly grieving. They recounted receiving calls from a mysterious man proposing financial compensation instead of legal action.

Chawiwan confirmed her late daughter-in-law worked as a cook and had left for work but didn’t return that morning as expected. Supachai found out about Tongurai's death through neighbours after a frantic search and numerous calls to local hospitals.

Further, Chawiwan described the accused driver as a woman around 30, reportedly intoxicated, accompanied by a male passenger.

Despite attempts to reconcile with police at the scene, no formal charges have been filed. Concern lingers as Supachai insists the driver must be held accountable for the accident, which was captured on CCTV.

Calling it an accident implies there was no fault, the correct term to use is 'collision' or 'impact'.

Wow, tough situation for the (poor?) family, I hope they have the sense to keep a copy of the CCTV footage, and get a lawyer involved ASAP, because this type of evidence does tend to disappear here, when dealing with wealthy criminals!  RIP dear lady.

It seems strange to most of us there must be a victim ie living relative who has suffered the loss before a case can be brought meaning kill someone with no relatives = no crime? Funny how you can be stopped with no helmet oh this is a criminal offence who is the injured party 🤔

An all too familiar story from the land of smiles.

It’s excellent to see this gain traction on social media, and I can only hope it leads to real consequences and serious charges.

But let’s not kid ourselves - in Thailand, the Protected continue to shield the Protected.

This will be dragged out, diluted, and ultimately dismissed, as someone with the right connections, influence, or wealth simply sidesteps justice for their vile, deadly actions - we've seen this on 'wash and repeat' for decades....

And yet, time and again, we see people slammed for “bringing Thailand’s reputation into disrepute” over petty missteps or foolish behaviour. The real disgrace? The obscene protection afforded to these verminous cretins. That is what truly tarnishes the nation’s reputation....

Hit and run,

Straight to jail, no if's or but's.

This despicable practice needs to stop here.

It's not ok to do it, just because you have money. :bah:

Agreed, also because they ran away before testing, it should be automatically assumed the driver was criminally intoxicated and face the highest possible penalty

100% agree....

The law on this is utterly moronic - as long as the 'report' within 24 hours, they won't be charged with DUI... is despicably enabling...

Typical Hi-So attitude "I can pay my way out of this" no mention of the owners name or licence plate number so must be someone with connections ......👎👎👎

What is appalling is that the authorities do not pursue cases, even with evidence, without someone pressing charges. Can't they do their job and apply justice?

May it be too much work or flagrant we know what? This goes right to the top.

Never had that problem when I was a hit and run victim.

The police traced him using CCTV, and charged him, 18 months from hit to end of court case.

I was just a witness, no  lawyer, no action on my part beyond form filling at their request.

Did you have to file or push for any charges to be filed ?

He wasn't a hi-so - he was just a uni professor.

I did nothing really, didn't even see the police the first month, my misses only went to the police station to file the police report needed for my government minimum insurance to get my hospital bill paid. The police took the report and ran with it.
