Phuket is on high alert, gearing up for a major anti-terrorism crisis management drill set to take place later this month. The exercise aims to bolster emergency response capabilities on the bustling tourist island, a crucial move for Phuket's status as Thailand's second-largest tourism economy.

Vice-Governor Suwit Phansengiam chaired a key meeting on Thursday, laying the groundwork for the 2025 Crisis Management Exercise, dubbed C-MEX 25.

The assembly featured top security personnel from military, police, and governmental bodies, including the Counter Terrorist Operations Center and Provincial Police Region 8.

As Phuket hosts waves of international visitors, Mr Suwit stressed the critical need for robust security measures to counteract any terrorist threats that could severely disrupt local and national stability.

Strategically staged from June 23 to June 27, the drill will unfold at the Phuket Municipal Office and the 36th Rajaprajanugroh School in Kathu district.

This intensive exercise will simulate various crisis scenarios to gauge and enhance the readiness of national policies, legal mechanisms, and inter-agency coordination.

The format will focus on seamless cooperation between government entities and civilian participants, ensuring everyone is on the same page when it comes to confronting any potential adversities.

In tandem, tsunami readiness drills are scheduled from June 25 to June 27 at the 36th Rajaprajanugroh School, Kamala Kindergarten, and Kamala Beach. These exercises aim to solidify emergency protocols and fortify response strategies against natural calamities in this vulnerable coastal region.

Mr Suwit has voiced that the main goal of these drills is to instil confidence in the island’s crisis management abilities, ensuring both residents and tourists feel secure.

The exercises represent a proactive approach to enhancing public safety and preserving the island's economic stability amid global uncertainties.

As June approaches, Phuket's commitment to safety and preparedness takes centre stage, raising the bar for crisis management and community resilience.

The terrorists from where?

Europe?

US?

Middle East?

China?

And why should they come to Phuket?
