Accident Drunk Father Crashes Motorcycle, 14-Month-Old Daughter Killed by Oncoming Pickup

A collision claimed the life of a 14-month-old girl in Nakhon Pathom on the evening of 13 June after her intoxicated father lost control of his motorcycle, causing her to fall from carrying a carrying seat and be fatally struck by an oncoming delivery pickup.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 20:45 in Moo 9, Bo Phlap subdistrict, Mueang district. Emergency responders and investigators from Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station, along with medical staff from Nakhon Pathom Hospital, were called to the scene.

 

The child, identified only as “Wei,” a 14-month-old girl of Myanmar nationality, was found lying motionless in the middle of the road. Her head had been crushed, with traumatic injuries described as horrific. Nearby, police found the motorcycle and a white delivery pickup, with a closed box compartment stopped at the scene.

 

The child’s father, Mr. Chalu, also a Myanmar national, admitted to police that he had been drinking alcohol before riding his motorcycle with his daughter sat in a front baby seat. While travelling along the road, he lost control. As the motorcycle fell, the child was thrown to the ground, directly into the path of the oncoming pickup.

 

“I admit I was drunk,” Mr. Chalu told police. “I couldn’t keep the bike steady and when it went down, my daughter fell and was run over right in front of me. I’m heartbroken that I caused her death.”

 

Mr. Paitoon, the driver of the delivery truck, stated that he had been driving to a local pork processing plant in Moo 8, Bo Phlap, when the motorcycle approached from the opposite direction. “I heard a sound like something under the wheel, so I stopped and got out. That’s when I saw the back right wheel had crushed the child’s head. I’m devastated. I have a young child too, this is the last thing I ever wanted to happen,” he said. The vehicle is reportedly covered by insurance.

 

A local resident who witnessed the incident, identified only as Ms. Ae, said she saw the baby fall from the motorcycle as the motorcycle toppled. “The truck came just at that moment and ran over the child. Her head was completely destroyed. I can’t forget what I saw,” she said tearfully.

 

The body was taken to Nakhon Pathom Hospital. Authorities have not yet announced what legal action will be taken, but are continuing to investigate the case.
