Ten years in Thailand now, and looking for decent quality men’s button down & Polo shirts at a fair price. 

It has become increasingly difficult to find in US size XL or equivalent. I’ve tried the local 3XL though most are too small in the arms & chest.

Any suggestions for a good location to find off the rack? It is best for me to try the fit in a store, as online efforts have been a bit disappointing. 

 

Not looking for a tailor, but can travel from Isaan as required to most any location with decent shops.

I'm guessing you're an XXL here. Hard to guestimate these days because everything is extrasized up.

 

Shirts: Try Uniqlo (4-700), AIIZ (3-600), Yuedpao for inexpensive hq Ts (150-400). AIIZ is my go to shirt store. I have half dozen + of these.

 

Robinson's is very pricey and poor value generally. Good clothes they're just ridiculously priced. 

 

HM is total junk. Giordano is just ok, but poor value. They had some excellent shorts for 990 that I was eyeing but they just never went down to a price point I was comfortable with. By the time they hit around b600 the selection was sketchy and I just went to Uniqlo as they were having a big sale. 

 

You might find something at Muji. Lacoste has nice polo's, but always ungodly overpriced.

 

In all the malls along Ratchada corridor there are pop-up shops you might find shirts, Ts about b300-400

 

Make a trip to BKK where you can shop with selection and get your size right.

 

It's a good time to buy clothes, lots of sales. None of the stuff is cheap or fair value but it's less expensive than the ridiculous full retail pricing

EDIT I just bought a bunch of shorts at Uniqlo on sale 599. I'm also 36 resized 35. I'd recommend the Chinos although I almost went for the slim fit. I just looked too gay wearing them. They're nice in that they're not that typical Chino fabric. Do not under any circumstances by cargo shorts for <deleted>sake!

 

EDIT2 in a lot of those pop-up shops there are rayon shirts which are quite thin but I don't like the way they hang on me. I'm also okay with a bit of poly insurance but I don't want the whole bloody thing to be made out of plastic. Anyway, these shirts are everywhere and can be found for as little as 300 baht

Thank you for the reply, sometimes I can find shirts at Uniqlo, or AIIZ though I need the XXXL and the arm & shoulders are often tight. 
 

I am thinking to go to BKK for shopping, could you recommend a shopping mall for me to visit. I rarely go to BKK, so any choice I make is random at best.

Any Central. Uniqlo all the same everywhere. AIIZ is hit miss for selection and sizes. You might have to hit two or three. 

 

Stay out of Terminal 21, Emporium and especially Paragon.

 

Central Lat Prao/ Pohan Yotin has Uniqlo, Central dept, AIIZ small selection, Giordano, Muji and Yuedpao in basement along with other men's casual wear. Bustling with beautiful women and students from Kasetsart. Nice food court.

 

Zen has everything but I find it very confusing. Lots of BKK beauties. If you like sushi you can eat at Katsu Madori. I highly recommend it

 

If you happen to have a car which I have no idea why you would in Bangkok but I believe there is an aiiz outlet somewhere north of Bangkok.

 

You also might want to try Pattaya outlets although you might just find overpriced junk there

There you'll find bigger sizes described by chest measurements etc.

Ignore the stated.size.

There's no standard.

Changwattana Immigration building.  On the lower level, there is a guy who has a shop selling mostly Ralph Lauren that the owner gets from the US from stores such as Ross.  Some stuff is seconds, others is overstock.  Everything I have bought appears to be genuine and is less than 1/3 of the price of the Polo Stores in the malls.

FYI:  One does not need to be ‘fat or obese’  to require extra large shirts to properly fit. 😎

Thanks, I have never been there but if I cannot find something at the malls maybe I will take a look.

I never said that you did.

I described the trick to actually get to see LARGER sizes on Lazada.

Try it. It works.

Chinese sizes are two steps smaller, so an XL would be a 3X. Unfortunately, They don't always say what sizes they are offering, particularly on Lazada. When I find the right size, I buy extras.

Just go to AIIZ in KK and size yourself up in those shirts ... it's prolly XXL.

 

Now I think about it I'm not at all sure I've seen that size in the stores.

 

Also, AIIZ can check stock in other stores so if you like a pattern if you like a shirt pattern up where you are you can order the size.

 

AIIZ is what I'd call proper Asian sizing bordering US sizing before everything went jumbo.

 

Don't buy linen blend many stores pushing it. It's nice and cool, but wrinkles easily. The Uniqlo shirts are not even that light

 

Don't order shirts off the internet here. Lazada and Temu ffs.

I'd recommend Uniqlo online. You should visit their shop (most Centrals/Malls have it) and consider that their numbers are 1 to 2 smaller than US size, so L = Uniqlo XL or XXL.

Up to XL, sometimes XXL they have in their shops, so you can check for size, and if that's not large enough, then buy larger size from their website and have it either delivered to home or pick it up in their shop, where if it doesn't fit, you can exchange or return it for a full refund.

In my travels I have found my shirt size go from XL to XXL even  in Europe, every manufacturer seems to have a different idea of size and online size guides don't help

 

In the end I have to visit the shop to be surprised what my current size is 😔

In the US, I would wear a size XL or maybe 2XL. Here in Thailand, I have to wear 7XL! 

You might try Amazon.com. The shipping and customs is pretty reasonable now for some things, and you can depend on the quality and fit.

Maybe your size… I wear a 36 (sometimes 34) in pants & shorts. 👍

Tax & shipping on a Polo XL was 104.00 last week added to 125-150 for the shirt.

Almost the same cost as purchasing local but I still need to try it to ensure a proper fit.
