You really think Thailand has an average IQ higher than Switzerland? Why haven't they had any meaningful impact on the world of science, engineering or medicine? Why aren't French and Italians sending their kids to school in Thailand then?

Because the top international schools in Thailand have a lot of white European (and American) teachers.

No idea, can't be bothered to find out either.🙂

I just posted that, because way too many people love to denigrate & find fault about Thailand on here.

"You're the good or bad guy then?😂.

Well, I opened the thread to see how the members think of Thais.

And it's clear they think themselves to be the superiors.

I added an IQ test for everybody but got none response about the result.

My assumption (even more than assumptions) is that many/most were shocked not even getting the 89. I reckon 89 might be just the average here on AN.🥳

You'd have to break the US into two categories. The regular population would be, from your link, 99.7. The MAGA idiots would be 20 points lower.

Yes, that's true. But they think and act as being the majority

Happy we're  not American then.

1.  Nobody cares.  Are you making bank?  No, move on... Yes, good.

2.  Are you educated?  Do you see your school below? No?  Why not?

America  #1 and #2.  Of course.

blah, blah, blah won't buy you a 3 million dollar home in America.

Come on posters, get that money like the Americans!!!!!!

People care a lot.  It's just become taboo to talk about IQ in terms of who might have a low or high one.

Bizarre comment.  What point are you even making?  You shouldn't be interested in any topic unless it makes you money?

So what?  We are free to blah blah all we want.

I had to ask ChatGPT how to determine the percent of a normal distribution based on a standard deviation of 15. That was the answer it gave and showed the formulas. Why doesn't that apply to IQ?

Here's is the output:

To find the percentage of the population at or above 100 on a normal distribution with:

  • Mean (μ) = 89

  • Standard deviation (σ) = 15

  • We are looking for the probability that a value is ≥ 100

Step 1: Convert to Z-score

Z = \frac{X - \mu}{\sigma} = \frac{100 - 89}{15} = \frac{11}{15} \approx 0.733

Step 2: Use the Z-score to find the percentile

From the Z-table or using a standard normal distribution calculator:

  • The area to the left of Z = 0.733 is approximately 0.7673

Step 3: Subtract from 1 to get the upper tail

P(X \geq 100) = 1 - 0.7673 = 0.2327

Final Answer:

Approximately 23.27% of the population has an IQ at or above 100 when the distribution has a mean of 89 and standard deviation of 15.

It's not always wise to present AI consent. In particular if it's not correct😂

IQ is a product of genetic inheritance, education, and socioeconomic status of the parents, to name just a few of the influences.

There's really no point to talking about the average IQ of Thais, it is predetermined by wealth inequality, and an education system that emphasizes obedience and avoids stimulation.

IMO the results for any racial or national group would be the same if the same conditions applied, so we can stop getting up ourselves about how much smarter we are.

Yeah, all those tech bros and business billionaires are absolute morons.

But you... Leftist keyboard warrior an unquestionable GENIUS.

When I think of smart the only leftists come to mind are the crafty lawyers engaged against Trump in the lawfare suits - but they lost too 🤣

Hmmh, partly agreed.

However, what do you think: do the Americans have more opportunities to learn than Thais In Thailand? The IQ actually is similar. My conclusion is that with same or similar means Thais could achieve much more. The best example you see in Singapore or Hongkong aso. On the other hand...why eg Americans don't waste their opportunities?

Average American IQ is 98-100.

It's too early to tell what dismantling the federal education system in America will do to that average.

Two facts that give pause:

50% of Americans still believe in angels.

In terms of wealth inequality, three men in America control more money than the bottom 150 million Americans.

Well, I suppose the percentage of Ghost believers in Thailand is much higher

The Holy Ghost and Spirit is a religion thing. So most people in the world believe in something except those who do not. Still the Majority do

Most tests are designed to give an averge IQ score of 99, think that's the accepted technical average... so, 89 seems slightly low, but not by much and could entirely be true in a society which has an outdated and flawed education system. Also, however, due to social media and the proclivity to just mindlessly stare into their phones whilst often displaying a shocking lack of emotional intelligence, then I'm not surprised if such levels are becoming more general in many societies, not only Thailand (Ideocracy film here we come in the not so distant future - "Welcome to Cosco, I love you").

There are many different types of IQ tests, but I think some of the better ones are the sequential grid pattern types that want you to figure out what the next grid pattern will be to continue the sequence, as it also tests your problem-solving skills too.

It has been my experience that IQ only ever comes up in a discussion when people that fancy themselves bright are unable to formulate a coherent argument to support their position.

That someone believes an online IQ test designed to get clicks from people killing time on the internet is actually representative of a population speaks more to their intelligence than anything else.

The last days I realized that some Expats here had been concerned about the IQ of other members.

So I did my research and was surprised to see the average IQ in Thailand is said to be 89.

Can you do better?

Spent half an hour doing these puzzles, nothing to do with intelligence, skipped a couple. Then it wants GBP 0.79 off my C Card to get results, recurring payment if not cancelled within two days. Scam.

The ordinary scientific test will go over one hour. It's a mix of easy and difficult.

Or a "Mensa" test

I did read a study back, and think average university students had 115.

I did the official Mensa back in the days, and scored 123.

Most of this averages is from online tests, but a few researchers back in time picked an average representation of the population from all over the country and scored 88. I believe that must be 20 years back or so. Most of the elderly was analfabet and some places still are between the elderly.

IQ is a BS 'test' that was designed to measure a person's ability to think and thus learn. Once a person has passed the age of about 16-18 their IQ test results are very much influenced by their education - the better educated they are, the higher they will score in the standard IQ tests. That is why the current western world is full of over-educated idiots who have a degree and think they are intelligent and can run a country or company, when they should be plumbers and cleaners - especially those in subjects like 'gender studies'.

Take an mensa test, see for your self, it is not what you think it is at all.  😁

The entire point with IQ is that the difference between a 90 IQ and a 1000 IQ is quite significant already, let alone someone from the west where averages of 110-120 are pretty normal.

Hence many retired guys who would not be the brightest in the shed back home, appear here to be half genius and thrive.
