Bangkok's Formula One Ambitions Face Potential Financial Deficit

Featured Replies

This a political fighting. That's all. Thailand has an F1 certified race track, the Chang International Circuit. Owned and run by Newin Chidchob. Once ally of the Shinawatras, not now.

To get F1 to agree a Bangkok street circuit would be a big kick in the nuts for Newin. Thaksin would love that.

The last thing F1 needs is another street race!!

Totally agree.

The cars have outgrown many circuits, they have one racing line and it turns into a boring procession.

Especially in a country where discipline and knowledge of road safety isn't endemic.

Look at Singapore - a very disciplined place where people can be trusted to obey standards. Similar in Monaco.

As to your other objection, usually i agree, but by changing the pit stop rules, this year's Monaco GP was much more interesting than previously. That's up to the FIA to adjust the rules appropriately.

They will instruct the F1 drivers to drive like the locals for the best results.

There is a mickey mouse Thai track.... not suitable far a host of reasons. FYI I was on the committee that originally tried to get F1 here.

If it comes at all it will end up being a street circuit around Bangkok, which is also not suitable. But the great God of the Thais is money and that is the only way it will ever happen

Here's Thailand's chance to hold a very unique F1 race. Instead of a boring old street race they could stage the world's longest race down Sukumvit Road. Starting at Nana plaza and finishing at Soi 6 in Pattaya via Beach Road and Walking street 448 kilometers. This would get world wide publicity and be a winner !! Good idea or what ??

Didn't they make a movie about that - "Death Race 2000" or something?

They're still looking for a pilot...?

That’s just not right . There’s thousands of Space cadets in every village in Thailand .
