Foreigner arrested for drug consume and three year overstay (Possible to get bail?)

A colleague of mine has asked me for advice as his acquaintence a French man has been arrested for overstay, drug related charges  etc. In total it would be 5 charges. Basically he wanted to know if it would be possible to bail him out and what would be the standard rate if he hired a lawyer to defend his case. I heard that the lawyers usually charge around 200,000 Baht in the case that are many charges

The window to rectify the problem is short. Drug charges and an overstay of that length would be a million plus to get him out of the country. The first price is the best price.  He won't get off on the charges.  Hopefully he's in prison and not at IDC.

It depends what the other charges are! But he's looking at around £20K minimum.

Another bs post begging for attention. Anyone who as many problems as your posts would be living on the streets in and out of homeless shelters.

For overstay, drug related and a total of 5 charges, usually you get 1 month in CENTARA HOTEL PATTAYA for courtesy of the Hotel, including free buffet and massage parlor.

what drugs and how many is the big question here?

i got off with a 25k bribe back in 97 when ganja was illegal

mine was a small amount of ganja tho, and the bribe helped me skip the IDC

What "guidelines" do you base that estimate on or are you just pulling a figure out of nowhere?

"...the bribe helped me skip the IDC".

So you were on an overstay also to which a blind eye was turned due to the drug bribe?

People who aren't even in the country legally rarely get bail. Even if there were no other charges, they'd be held pending deportation.

In this case, with multiple criminal charges plus overstay, you'd need a lawyer who's a miracle worker plus unlimited funds for that lawyer to splash around. Unless the defendant has some serious money, he's well and truly screwed.

Jomtien? It's a hell hole.  Have you visited him there?

There is no remand prison in Jomtien.

Thanks. I don't know what the one on Pratumnak is called or what purpose it serves.  I have it on good authority that it was packed and an absolute hell hole.  There's a courtroom adjacent to the cells.

Edit:  Pattaya Provincial Court.

You have it backwards. The cells are adjacent to the courtroom. The cells are for day use only, for prisoners whose court cases are being heard that particular day. The prisoners are then taken back to Soi 9 or Nong Plalai Prison, or the Soi 5 Immigration cells every evening.

I very much doubt that someone on overstay would get bail.

For Meth, there is a new law: On June 18, 2024, a significant shift occurred in Thailand’s approach to methamphetamine possession that we at Thailand Bail would like to highlight. The Public Health Minister, Somsak Thepsuthin, announced a new regulation reducing the permissible amount for personal use to just one pill of methamphetamine or 20 milligrams of crystal meth (“ice”). https://www.thailandbail.com/new-thailand-drug-law-june-2024-for-meth/

no mate.  the bribe helped me to not be found guilty by the court and then deported.  deportation involves the IDC

the bribe was paid just as i was entering the court building.  scary moments

IDC = immigration Detention Center, this is for immigration offences, not used by the police.

What's this, especially if falang? back in the 90's the cops were allot nicer to expats and small fines were the norm for things like this.

In the 90's the Thai's gave expats allot more respect, now we are looked down on due to the idiots that come to Thailand and do whatever they want showing no respect to Thailand.

There is the distinct possibility that this question will generate many stupid replies.  Is there any chance that the moderators can intervene, cancel them and cancel the person for a week or even a month

yes, you may be right eric.  maybe it wasnt the IDC that i would have been sent.  i was on bail tho for three weeks on koh pang yang and during that period lots of people told me that if i went to court and was found guilty, then i would be deported, and during the period from the court to the deportation flight i would be held for about a week and the conditions were very bad.  maybe i would have been in the regular monkey house. maybe it would have been IDC.  i am guessing immigration are in charge of deportation
