Well, given your avatar, you won't fall under the decent tourists category.

I'm not a tourist, buddy.

Impossible to prosecute legally
Apparently, thousands of people are convinced that all these shops selling cannabis were breaking the law. They embarked on an adventure for the lure of easy profit by selling this product to anyone, including tourists, taking care not to read the latest version of the June 2022 law.
The cannabis bill is divided into 11 categories, comprising 45 articles...

Who is prohibited from selling cannabis and hemp?
Even though permission has been granted to grow, produce, import and export, this Act still stipulates conditions that prohibit selling for consumption to individuals as follows:

Under 20 years old
Pregnant women
Breastfeeding women
Other persons as announced by the Minister of Public Health <----------
In addition, this Act also protects people who may be harmed by consuming cannabis and hemp and prevents misuse....

At least decent tourists will be able to visit Thailand again

What on earth are you talking about "decent" tourists have never been unable to visit Thailand. families too and  believe it or not they have continued to do so undeterred.

You see most people who decide to take a holiday in a developing country, like Thailand will do a little research first to make sure it is offering whatever it is they are looking for in a holiday,   They  also,  by nature, tend to be a little more broadminded than the average tourist and a lot more broadminded than some of the pearl clutching bed wetters that have appeared on here recently

I have  yet to see a Thread on this forum along the lines of

" Came to Thailand for a family holiday but it was ruined by others smoking cannabis"  the only ones moaning about cannabis are a few intolerant  bigots on this forum whos narrow minds have been corrupted by reefer madness propaganda from the beginning of the last century.

Not trolling at all.

Pot smokers are pure deadbeat trash.

Thailand: The land of invented data.  When did 12,000 cannabis shops appear? weed.th says there are 10,760, BBC quoted government data when it recently said approx. 11,000 cannabis shops. Bangkok Post uses 18,000.

Big F in deal if some close. Most are not viable business operations. They exist for criminal purposes, such as money laundering. There will still be shops, because there will still be a customer base. This is just a vested interest group playing the sympathy card.

congratulations, in one bigoted and ridiculous generalisation you have managed to insult many on this forum and  millions of people worldwide, presumably you include

Rastafarians who class it as a sacrament ?

Members of "The alphabet community" ( gay trans etc) who cant be criticised

Those who enjoy taking it for medical reasons   I'm guessing you consider it ok to use for insomnia just as long as one doesn't enjoy it    That kind of twisted thinking just about  sums you and your ilk up  lol

Not to forget the high achievers who have admitted to enjoying it  Sir Paul McCartney and Elon Musk being two examples

Perhaps you might like to offer us a few examples of what makes you any better than the pot smokers you despise,  and maybe enlighten us as to the reason for such irrational hatred?

Better still shut up and stop trolling, it must be happy hour out there somewhere go get loaded and pop a xanax

It has to be quite a lot to do with the smuggling gangs, and bad karma for Thailand once those two girls where arrested, and there is a lot more been prosecuted in Heathrow etc.

Greedy Illegal growers and selling has put paid to it.

Keep it underground, I heard the Police used to make a nice earner before.

:clap2: Classic stuff, a perfect example of virtue signalling in action, he's been trolling his little heart out looking for someone to agree with him , he'll be so happy you responded, moreso as your eloquent and well thought out response implies that you think he thought that up all by himself.

The pair of you deserve each other, have you thought about getting a room?

Do you know that your brain cells die when you take this stuff often. How many brain cells are left? Guess!

In Thailand, men rule the roost.  It starts with the way they are brought up. Anything goes if the kid is male.

Straight out of reefer madness,

I've smoked for over 40 years I guess I have no brain cells left. I'm just worried that any day now I will be tempted to move on to harder drugs due to the "gateway effect"  Why has that not happened yet?

Have you ever contributed anything to a thread about cannabis?

If you dislike cannabis so much, why do you hunt down these threads is it just to whinge?

This from someone with a drinking problem.  🤣

Hardly surprising, they should have gone down the decriminalizing road first.

I mean, weed is only partially legal in Jamaica of all places - Bob Marley is rolling in his grave. :coffee1:

When I left there ~3 years ago, possession of 2oz was legal, and a cheap teleconference with the doc was all that was needed to buy from a legit shop.

Funny story- I used to buy from a girl in Negril. One time, I told her to meet me at 1400 (2 pm) for my usual (2oz). She shows up at my car with a half pound. After I expressed surprise, she said she thought I wanted 1400 Jamaican dollars worth (~$100 USD). Took it anyway.

This whole debacle is not just a cautionary tale about investing here, but also shows that things can just do a 180 on a dime without any concideration to who takes the hit and billions will be lost... happens on so many issues, just this is a glaringly clear one.

There's no wonder investment, public and private, has stalled because no-one knows where the goals posts are or will be in just a year or so. Business confidence and sentiment, plus things like tourists' perceptions on things in a country are fragile as hell, and once degraded or gone, then very hard to get back... especially business people, they are like skittish rabbits in headlights when stuff like this happens. The clowns that keep changing things just to justify their existence do far more damage to the country than anyone else.

This whole weed episode has been very poorly handled without properly consideration from start to finish... reap what you sow, I'm afraid.

This is ridiculous. An outrage to put so many businesspeople out of business. Is the economy that good that they can walk away from that much tax revenue?

My bet is it never comes to pass.

What the industry needs is strickter regulation, not a shutdown.

Were weed shops paying taxes?

I reckon you're new on AN?

If not you would have read ALL my posts about cannabis use/misuse.

Btw. If you don't like it (as a user I suppose) scroll on.

As Thailand uses metric measures, I doubt very much that there was ever any law mentioning that "2oz" was legal.
