In an unexpected twist at the Weed Boxing Championship in Thailand, Russian MMA fighter Ivan Parshikov got more than he bargained for after an electrifying victory. Known for its unusual rules allowing fighters to use cannabis before bouts, the event took a dramatic turn following Parshikov's win.

Parshikov, a seasoned contender previously competing in the ONE Lumpinee series, had just snapped a significant two-fight losing streak. His anticipation of a triumphant return was palpable as he climbed onto the ropes to bask in the adoration of the crowd. However, the celebration quickly soured when he accidentally grabbed hold of a miswired ringside light.

A dangerous mix of faulty electrical wiring and standing water around the ring led to Parshikov receiving a substantial electric shock. Captured on video and quickly making the rounds online, the footage shows the fighter freezing momentarily before collapsing awkwardly onto the canvas. Eyewitnesses were stunned, with one onlooker commenting, “It looked like he’d been tasered.”

Despite initial fears and dramatic video evidence, Parshikov remarkably avoided serious injury. While some media outlets mistakenly reported he had been electrocuted, implying more severe consequences, experts clarified he merely suffered a brief electric shock. Parshikov’s resilience was on display as he recovered swiftly, with medical staff vigilant for any potential delayed effects such as cardiac issues.

Reflecting on his shocking experience, Parshikov showed his trademark determination and sense of humour. He took to Instagram to reassure fans and share some insights, writing, “The idea of diving from the ring into the pool was not the most successful one. I’ll upload the full chronology of the events a bit later.”

His return to fighting action was far from what he envisioned, yet it ensured Parshikov was firmly in the spotlight. The electrifying moment didn’t overshadow his accomplishment in the ring but rather added an unforgettable chapter to his athletic journey.

As the dust settled, the incident raised questions about safety standards at such unconventional events, highlighting potential risks associated with recreational use and event management. Despite the unexpected drama, Parshikov's comeback remained intact, setting the stage for what will surely be an eagerly anticipated next fight.

In the world of MMA, where unpredictability reigns supreme, Ivan Parshikov’s electrifying experience stands as a testament to the unexpected twists the sport can offer. His resilience and ability to laugh off the incident only serve to enhance his already colourful career.

Not for much longer... unless they can find a corrupt doctor.

Nice event for the people. Not an every day spectacle.

Should be the new rule: 1 idiot has to touch a wet electric wire.😂

A loooooooooooooooooooooooong way of saying the (probably half-@r$ed) technician screwed-up.

Electrocution is the correct term.

But let's focus on another instance of poor, dangerous, electrical work, highlights the lack of electrical training, and inspections. But, as usual, no-one will be held accountable.

Cannabis before fighting?? 😆

Might be okay before a competitive-eating event, but weed isn't exactly a PED in the sports / fighting arena.
