Safest and Easiest Thailand Border Run Checkpoint in 2025 – Any Recommendations?

It does seem they are tightening up more and more now. What I have been reading in the news is that after the latest Tourist Authority of Thailand meeting "TAT Action Plan 2026" -  they want to focus on value over volume. Not really sure what it means, but I am guessing its not gonna get any easier for visa running with tourist exemptions 🙂

If any change, it just means collecting more agent-money per in/out.

TAT doesn't set immigration policy, anyway.  That sounds more like, "Golly, we can't get those big numbers from China any more.  Let's pretend we don't want volume."

If you fly to Hat Yai, you can take a minivan to the Wang Prachan border in Satun, which borders Malaysia. The journey takes about three hours.   When you arrive, explain to the immigration

  • myanmar is closed  ,the most easy way should be a round trip to KL and use the safe entry service 🙂

In ranong you can go to the kiwi hotel next to the bus station. She will take care of everything for 2000 bhat

This apparently has changed. To me, they quoted a price of 3050 baht. Welcome to Thailand 🙄

Ranong is very relaxed, you can jump on an organised  minivan/stamp trip from chumphon

Do they have a website or a phone number I could call and ask details?

No, they want you to make the reservation (and pay for the trip) when you come to Chumphon, then stay in Chumphon one night, and do the visa run the next day. At least that's the way I understood it 😐

I have not needed to do it for years, but they used pick up people from Tao at the night ferry and be at the border for 730am, because the people from Tao had to be back for the 130pm ferry. So that is probably why they say stay over night.

There was also a van to the Andaman club, which left at midday and back at 7pm. But i believe that is closed now. Like i said, it depends where you come from, you can always rent a car and dfive your self.

When you arrive, explain to the immigration officer that you want to pay the "fee" of 2,000 baht to return on the same day.

The officer will direct you to a window around the corner, where a female immigration officer will provide you with a ticket number to present on the Malaysian side.

You'll then walk over to the Malaysian side, give them your ticket, and they will stamp you in and out. Then you can return to Thailand to get your stamp back in.

I've done this five times so far with no problems at all.

Thanks for your help. No similar plan for Padang Besar ? It's only 50 minutes by train.

Never been to that border, so not sure, there's a thread about it somewhere on here though

I heard that all the Myanmar borders are close from Thailand now, is it any truth to that?

Land borders with Myanmar are indeed closed for non-locals, with one exception: Ranong, where you can take a boat to Myanmar.

Where? Ranong?

That has been a reliable border bounce location for years.

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to do a border run from Ranong (Thailand) over to Kawthaung (Myanmar) and then come straight back the same day alone without any agency. Basically just a “border bounce.”

I’d really appreciate any up-to-date info or advice on how things are working right now:

  • What rules are currently in place for foreigners doing this?

  • Is it safe to do it solo, or is it better to go with an agency?

  • Do I need to pay anything extra if I come back the same day, or just the usual fees?

  • How strict are Thai/Mynanmar immigration with people who have already done several border runs?

  • I’ve heard you need a crisp US $10 bill for the Myanmar side and a copy of your passport – is there anything else I should prepare?

If anyone has done this recently, I’d love to hear about your experience — especially how smooth it was, if the hours are still 7am–5pm, and whether there are any new restrictions.

Thanks a lot in advance!

You just have to go there and find out

I did see someone on here recently had booked a trip to Savannakhet with "Bangkok Buddy" (or maybe Buddies), I only read it, didn't research further  Hell of a return trip in a minibus.

I took one of the minivans from the Tesco Lotus Onnut parking lot one month ago, not sure if it was Bangkok Buddy, but they drove to Mukdahan.

We left 8 PM and back around 6 PM the next day. There were two guys taking turns driving the minivan—while one drove, the other rested—so it felt a bit safer.

Don't mind using them again if the Cambodian border remains closed.

DIY - maybe - but they will not let you leave if the answer is "no."  Have some days left on your Thai permitted-stay, for a Plan-B.

They may just accept a payoff at immigration, 2000 Baht reported here:
https://aseannow.com/topic/1365639-safest-and-easiest-thailand-border-run-checkpoint-in-2025-–-any-recommendations/#findComment-19927234

... or, some guy hits you up for the extra money before you get to the checkpoint (as reported at a Malaysian crossing).

Someone did report here on a local place that arranged an agent-crossing there in the same thread - though a price-increase on that service may be in-effect:
https://aseannow.com/topic/1365639-safest-and-easiest-thailand-border-run-checkpoint-in-2025-–-any-recommendations/page/2/#findComment-19932449

Other options also discussed in that thread - worth a read.

You can apparently go alone solo to Myanmar but its not safe as i understand and you should go with a guide or agency but if you still want to go solo you need 30000 Baht in cash in hand or in bank account that you can withdraw, return ticket to same country as your passport connected to TDAC ( everything have to match) and proof of accommodation for immigration to let you back in. They make it hard for you if you don't go with agency
