Parking Row Turns Ugly as Benz Driver Slaps Student in Bangkok

BANGKOK - A Mercedes-Benz driver is at the centre of a storm after allegedly slapping a university student during a heated parking dispute outside a convenience store on Soi Sukhumvit 62 in Bangkok.

The student took to social media to share a video of the confrontation, captioning it, “Wealthy Mercedes-Benz driver slaps university student in Soi Sukhumvit 62.” The footage, however, resulted in unexpected backlash against the student. Netizens criticised both the driver’s use of violence and the students’ behaviour.

The original post was deleted, but the video quickly went viral after others reposted it across Thai social media platforms. In the video, the driver defended his actions, explaining difficulties in opening his car door due to the students’ motorcycle being parked too close. He claimed he had asked the female student to move it, but she refused, citing a lack of keys.

The driver argued that the motorcycle could have been moved without keys or her boyfriend could have been called to assist. He emphasised that the area was not meant for motorcycle parking and that his request had been ignored. The driver accused the students of having poor manners.

The students, however, insisted that the driver was rude and aggressive. A bystander intervened, suggesting both parties were wrong; the students for parking in a car space and the driver for using violence.

The video concluded with the driver becoming irate and swiping the student’s phone, ending the recording. The resolution of the incident remains unclear, with no reports of legal action by the students against the driver for the alleged assault.

This altercation mirrors a similar incident in Nonthaburi province, where a jewellery store owner and lawyer clashed over a parking dispute. In that case, the lawyer verbally attacked the store owner after blocking a space, leading to legal proceedings. The outcome remains unresolved.

The unfolding of these parking disputes highlights ongoing tensions in urban spaces over vehicle accommodations and proper conduct, illustrating a broader issue facing city residents.

The mercedes driver is unlikely to be wealthy. The car is a basic model and is probably leased.  I sort of feel for him. The  motorbike riders do whatever they want.

So the motorcycle was parked in the walkway? Color me surprised.

Motorcycle drivers are terrible. it seems they think they are the only ones who have a right for road and parking places. They use the whole road driving from right to left and left to right without looking. pushing between cars at traffic lights and I think everybody knows how they behave...They give a lot of irritation to others.. The Mercedes Benz is someone who need some status and want to look important... No wonder it will clash..

"The driver argued that the motorcycle could have been moved without keys or her boyfriend could have been called to assist."

Or he could have helped move it

Arguing over parking spaces is hardly a new phenomenon, nor confined to Thailand. Can’t see the need to make a big deal out of it.

You can get shot for doing less than that, never ever touch another's vehicle

Especially as it looks like he had enough room to squeeze himself out.......:whistling:

There is no way the motorcycle should have parked in that walkway, and if she had parked too close to the car for him to get out, she deserved the slap.

He was able to get out and lash out.

The violent act, makes any argument he had in his favour, null and void.

They are both idiots, but slapping anyone, let alone a female because he didn't get his way is unforgivable

Would you have kicked her in the hoo-ha?

really doesn't change his sense of entitlement or the fact he slapped her. In fact, that probably exacerbated issues

It's irrelevant, but if he did it wouldn't be any less wrong.

Might of just "kicked" the motorcycle over and out of me way.

But then lordchinz would eradicate his entire family.

Both are entitled morons... but that's the new norm, which is there is only me in the universe.

So violence got the motorcycle moved?

I'm assuming so, because the bike has already been moved, and the driver's door unblocked, before the video even starts!

Violence is rarely a good way to resolve a minor issue. Just ask the good Swedish doctor facing deportation……

Agreed it would still have been wrong but had he slapped a man there would be a very good chance of being smacked back

The guy is probably a Thai version of Willie Loman and got frustrated by her attitude and tone. Listen to her. It's enough to drive alot of people over the edge. Sure, he was wrong to smack her, and I am not excusing it, but sometimes, people just lose it in Thailand. She was no worse for wear. She knew she was wrong to park where she did, but she was so arrogant she  didn't care. That's why the old guy lost it. Alot of Thais will say oops sorry, and that's it. She berated the man.

Did I read it correctly, the girl was not the rider of the motor cycle just the passenger so moving it was nothing to do with her.

Years ago in Patts there was this guy opening bar next door to gf shop... we let him store some things while he did some decorating... we were helpful... But he was a raging arse when drunk, rant fume at us, etc.

One time he drove his motorcycle up and parked it right in front of our entrance... "Anyone touch it and I'll smash them" warning....

I took a minute to put some things away and then came out, unzipping my pants so I could pee on his bike... "I didn't touch it" would be my response... but by time I got out he'd left. Real piece of work. Heard he died later of too much viagra and weak heart...

More likely that you would not "of".

Im glad the prima donna got a backlash after posting it online. It may make take that chip off her shoulder. They are parked where they should not be and then give him lip for pointing it out, recording everything as if he's the bad guy. The headline also makes it sound like he hit her whereas he just slapped her phone.

Love it!  File criminal charges.  My guess is that the student probably dropped filing criminal charges after being persuaded ฿฿฿฿฿.
