A steel structure collapsed at a construction site in Soi Nimit Mai 6, injuring 13 workers. Emergency crews are currently assessing the site for further casualties.

At around 8:06 PM on 6th July 2025, a building under construction in Min Buri, Bangkok, suffered a structural failure. Fire and rescue teams from Bang Chan arrived on the scene to find a steel framework had collapsed, injuring six initially, later confirmed as 13.

Rama Radio Centre's Facebook update reported the collapse of a two-storey structure, with 160 workers initially on site.

Thankfully, all have been accounted for outside the building. The injured were transported to hospital, and officials continue their thorough safety inspections.

Who manufactured the steel?

Looks like the same chinese steel that didn't hold up the government building under construction during  the earthquake.

That depends on the purchase price....

For us, it was called 'pick up sticks':

It appears lessons have not been learnt from the earlier disaster that cost many lives when a government building collapsed

Government decided it was not the steel it was the architects and engineers who designed the building.

It's getting ridiculous now. Needs a full investigation into whether it's inadequate materials or inadequate construction workers. I'll bet the steel gets blamed!

I played a game when I was about seven years old called "pick-up sticks." Each stick was about the size of a chopstick.  You grabbed the bundle in the center, raised it to 2-3 feet, and let go.  The result looked very much like the photo of the rebar.  Then you had to pick them up without moving any of the other sticks.

It is highly unusual to frame a two-story building with rebar only versus frame and concrete pour the first floor followed by EACH successive floor framed and poured. I wonder if even the foundation below the first story was finished with its concrete pour before even before framing the first story.

This failure goes beyond any safety inspection. Get some engineers or architects to review the building plans as compared to the construction process. The project looks like a rush deal.

But did the architects and engineers not specify the quality and specifications of the materials used?

I'm wondering if there will be any investigation into the brand (and quality) of rebar used... (possible the SKY brand from the Xin Ke Yuan Steel Co >>> ???? ) - all initially condemned and since whitewashed as safe...

... Yet this looks like another 'rebar failure' or very poor workmanship...

Although it is hard to see in the photos, the collapse looks more like a scaffolding support failure rather than a rebar failure.
