This is how to keep Thailand safe and boost tourism, go after people who are overstaying their visa.   By all means ignore human trafficking, ignored drug smuggling, ignore corrupt policemen

I actually do consider it quite safe, in all the time that I've been here I've never had a major incident nor have I ever been attacked or robbed. That says a lot about the place, despite the poor pol

In my country all they have to do is turn up on the beach in a dinghy and they will be rewarded with hotel rooms, funds etc, etc.

Would you like to live in a hotel room instead?

That wouldn't give you private information about anyone, let alone many.

If I was in the UK and not an OAP then Yes! and with all the extra's. As long as I was nowhere near these illegals of a certain faith.

By all means ignore human trafficking, ignored drug smuggling, ignore corrupt policemen, ignore corrupt customs and immigration officials, ignore public and traffic safety, and ignore the dozen issues that were plaguing tourism prior to covid.

Just keep on marching backwards into tourism oblivion.

When you see a cop standing at a roundabout watching infringements and doing nothing you wonder why he's there at all

He's a franchisee and he's working the franchise, he's being highly selective and determining which individual he wants to extract some cash from.

So were they still doing 90 day reports ?

If not, isn't there some kind of mechanism in place where Immigration check such things?

Shoosh. It's a secret! Your letting the secret out which is nobody reads those reports. To many pages and no extra pay.

How many to a room would you accept in your hotel?

Only two, myself and my wife.

I agree with your name, very fitting, you are “suspect.” I would not trust you behind me.  Don’t get angry at the world because you have a low level of comprehension in understanding a  simple statement.   I will forewarn,  if you reply to this, I will not open, so don’t waste your time. Rant as much as you want.   Bye

So as a bald Brummy ex-military, you think that my job and living in Thailand doesn't give me a good picture of who;s working illegally - BTW I've actually worked at immigration too!

No, the only way anyone can know about anyone here is to know them personally, and then you only know a little. Anything more is assumptions. Your statement..........."there are dozens of foeireigners either over staying or  on illegal visas, working without permits, bribing local police". the only one's privy to this information here is Thai law officers and Thai immigration, a job a foreigner can't have.

It's clear you've reached you illectuall limit and it's way below the level of this discussion  - you resort to the classiccliche -  ‘Unless you’re the police, you can’t possibly know anything.’ That might work if illegal work and visa scams weren’t openly discussed in expat bars, flaunted on YouTube, and advertised in Facebook groups. You don’t need a badge to recognize a guy teaching English with a tourist visa or running a café in someone else’s name. Willful blindness doesn’t make the problem invisible — it just makes it easier for those abusing the system to keep doing it.

My "intellectual" limit is far above any you might have. You assume a lot here, and make statements that make no sense, along with your "expertise" on road matters, where you're also clueless.

99.9% of us are not immigrants..............:coffee1:

You're an  immigrant or a holidaymaker - An immigrant is any person who moves from their country of origin to another country with the intention of residing there for an extended period. This includes individuals who relocate for various reasons such as work, study, family reunion, retirement, or lifestyle changes. In the context of Thailand, immigrants encompass foreign retirees choosing to spend their golden years in the country, expatriates working for local or international companies, long-term residents on various types of visas, digital nomads, and anyone else establishing a significant presence outside their home country.

As Like other expats I contribute to the Thai economy, the boat people are illegals who do not contribute to the UK economy. This debate is now over, so run along.

I am a visitor, a visitor to see my wife....I am not surprised you know nothing about that stuff....:coffee1:

America has ICE.

Thailand will soon have SOMTAM.

Any Thai will have the right to demand papers.  Unable to show passport, citizen's arrest.  You will wait until the app notifies the police, police will show up, and the fine will be 2000 for no passport and 1000 to go check your passport.

35 million tourists last year and a few expats.

Don't worry, problem solved!!!!  Be happy!!!!!!

I didn't say because you're not the police you couldn't know anything. You might personally know one or two foreigners that are here overstaying or bribing officers to stay. Many of us can say the same thing because we know them well or they told us, which is still only hearsay.  Your statement, again,.........."there are dozens of foeireigners either over staying or  on illegal visas, working without permits, bribing local police"...is an assumption, as is this one,............."You don’t need a badge to recognize a guy teaching English with a tourist visa or running a café in someone else’s name"............... You would need the power to read minds, something no one has. There are people here teaching English that no one would ever be the wiser about, if they were doing it with a tourist,non-o immigrant or any other, or staying here illegally. How would you know if someone's running a cafe in another's name unless you had personal information about them? You wouldn't. Like some here, making assumptions is a daily thing, and seeing this is an adult forum, you aren't fooling anyone.

It wasn’t really a crackdown on visa overstay, as implied by the headline. It’s just two guys who were complained about in terms of weird behavior, and it so happens that they are overstay on visa

Actually wrong in both cases. Western miimgrant grossly over=estimate their value to the Thai economy - especially when it comes to healthcare.

Refugees around the world are NOT permitted to work on arrival, they do however in a lifetime, claim much less befits than "natives" do. THey also improve both economy and workforce.

Most of them do. They get offered a flat or house but prefer the hotel as they are given a daily allowance, the room cleaned for them and have no living expenses!
