Just had a hearing test and unfortunately I do need to wear aids now. AI says that the level of technology available in Thailand doesn't match that in the UK and suggests buying aids before moving to Thailand, The pair I tested today from Hidden Hearing charges overnight in a similar cradle used for ear bud recharging in a USB port. It has a smallish behind the ear attachment to hold the aid in the ear in place. The problem is you are meant to have it checked every year and potentially adjusted. I really don't fancy travelling back to the UK every year.

Has anyone had hearing aids prescribed and fitted in either Pattaya or Bangkok? Or has anyone brought a similar type when moving here from abroad and been able to get round the yearly adjustment problem.

AI should not be relied on so good you're asking here for real life knowledge.

Most of what you pay for with hearing aids is the after sales service so I would not choose to buy from the UK if living in Thailand.

I would expect that Bangkok is better served than Pattaya.

Google is your friend here, my search for "hearing aids Bangkok" got plenty of hits so you can shop around.

Western aids are available here, but these are not necessarily better.

Audimed in Bangkok (Tetsabansongkro Road, Chatuchak) has top of the range hearing aids and will fit you up with whatever you need.

I have needed their help occasionally  and find them friendly and helpful and fluent in English.

I  wear  Two Hearing Aids  bought from shops in Pattaya and Bangkok..  the  staff working in these shops call themselves Technicians, when it should be an Audiologist  treating you,  the one particular shop in Pattaya  staffed by Two

Ladies are hopeless in more ways than  one , ...more concerned about their  Commission than your Hearing, as my Audiologist friend in UK says " Your Hearing Aid is only as good  as the  person to progammed it'.....;.I have used just 1 place in Bangkok, much more Professional than Pattaya, but again  a Technician,  & they dont seem interested in after sales service unless you bought the Aid in that shop, despite the manuafacturers warranty,

I have now given up  on Hearing Aids in Thailand  and i go to Singapore  where u are treated by a Professional Audiologist with much better English Language,  & far more knowledge on Hearing Aids, and the program ing of them..I'm more then happy with   the Singapore service plus a couple of days  vacation

I have used DMED for hearing aids. They have changed their name to Dear Hearing. Their home office is in Chonburi with several branch offices around Thailand including one in Pattaya. The owner is an Audiologist and based in Chonburi.  The Pattaya location has technicians running the shop - they also spend time doing the hearing tests for Bangkok Hospital Pattaya -- better to get the same test at their shop as, unlike the hospital,  their test is free.

Last March, I obtained my latest hearing aids from them which are much as you describe - behind the ear, charging device using USB connection.  The hearing test showed more hearing loss since I obtained my last pair a little over 5 years ago. My USA based health insurance covers me up to a certain amount for the cost of new hearing aids every 5 years.

They are located on  Chaiyaphruek road between Jomtien Beach Road and Sukhumvit. Contact information and a map can be found here: https://www.dear.co.th/en/branchs/

I have the same problem as you, hearing loss. I went to the shop at Klang, but it was closed for one month at that time. I found another one in Jomtien and went there to talk to them. They suggested a Danich model, that including test would cost around 40 000 Baht. I decided to instead buy  a pair from Lazada for about 700 Baht. They worked very good, but it was still a problem.  Even if I could hear what people said, many of them speak Thai so the solution was not quite right for me as I don´t understand Thai. Back to Lazada and bought a translator that include an app for the phone and what looks like an earphone connected to the phone through Bluetooth. It cost about 12000 Baht and the translation is read in the "earphone with a few seconds delay. Thie combination of translator in one ear and hearing aid in the other works perfect for me.

Don't you find the problem with translation is Thais seem to use slang a lot so translation can be garbage?

Maybe they do, but I have not find it as a big problem yet. Even if they use slang I understand so much that I can ask them to explain if needed. It also could depend on the age and education of the people you listen to.

But I should admit that there could be some understanding problems when listening to people from Isaan as they speak a kind of Laos dialect (If they not speak Thai). But not really any big problem so far.

Thanks for the information, thats very interesting. I was wondering if you could advise me what hearing aid and translation device you ordered from Lazada? It sounds like a good option.
