Climate Fear Stagnant for Decades Despite Alarming Events

CNN’s data analyst Harry Enten has highlighted a striking lack of change in American attitudes toward climate change over the past quarter-century, arguing that climate activists have failed to persuade the public of the crisis's urgency.

Speaking on CNN, Enten cited polling data from 2025 showing that just 40% of Americans report being “afraid” of climate change—exactly the same figure as in the year 2000. “Americans aren't afraid of climate change, climate activists have not successfully made the case to the American people,” he said. “We have data going back to 1989.”

Enten pointed out that despite decades of extreme weather events—raging wildfires, deadly heat waves, catastrophic hurricanes, and record-breaking droughts—the level of concern among the public has barely budged. “Despite all of these horrible weather events, the percentage of Americans who are greatly worried has stayed pretty consistent,” he noted.

The remarks come at a time when environmental groups and scientific institutions are doubling down on warnings that the window to mitigate global warming is rapidly closing. However, Enten’s analysis suggests that even in the face of overwhelming evidence and visible climate impacts, activists have struggled to shift public opinion in a meaningful way.

His comments raise questions about the effectiveness of environmental messaging, the role of political polarization, and whether personal experience with climate-related disasters translates into sustained concern or policy support. As extreme weather continues to affect more communities, the data indicates that fear alone may not be driving broader climate action—or voter behavior—in the United States.

I am old enough to recall that we have been threatened with extinction as a result of famine, as a result of entering a new ice age (global cooling) and now apocalyptic declarations that the end is nigh (2030 if you believe little Gretta) as a result of global warming.

No wonder that 60% of Americans think it's a load of codswallop.

Maybe most Americans aren’t as stupid as they hoped they’d be.

The problem for the climate fear  alarmists is that most people know that the climate has forever been changing, and always will be.

It’s to nebulous of a problem I think.most people do realize there’s changes happening but don’t want to take the nessary steps to mitigate it so we take refuge in denial.

CNN are fully paid up members of the doomsday cult.

Thankfully as this article proves, nobody believes them.

Just as nobody believed Harris was ahead in the polls.

CNN have zero credibility.

Time will show!

As long we poison our air, water and deforestation our local environment and important species for humans disappearing, less fish in the ocean, more complications because of human activity, we ain't doing any good to our home.

Climate changes coming with us or without us, that just how planet earth is. Natural cycles because of the planetary cycles, and coincidentally happenings on top of earth own cycles and activities.

So? Where where we again?

Numbers are from July 1, 2025 ......

https://www.tvinsider.com/1200350/tv-news-ratings-2025-second-quarter-abc-nbc-cbs-msnbc-fox-news-cnn/

In the key 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 202,000 viewers for the day and 304,000 in primetime, down slightly on the first quarter (247,000 and 380,000, respectively). MSNBC averaged 57,000 viewers for the day (even with Q1) and 91,000 in primetime (down a tick from 96,000). CNN, meanwhile, averaged 71,000 viewers for the day (down from 79,000) and 105,000 in primetime (down from 121,000).

Yep, CNN beats MNBC.  ROTFLMFAO.

You forgot Peak Oil and the Ozone layer ...........

The tragedy is the frightful waste of money and rising energy costs in most "rich" governments, being fearful of climate change. Merkel will go down as her country's most destructive leader since Hitler, and yet she meant well, poor sod.

agreed but the problem is the speed of climate change & our civilisation is built on the basis of relatively small amount of change.  The last 5000 years has been quite stable climatically.  Prior to that the Sahara was wet & green, the north America continent has a 'Sahara-sized' desert where the Nebraska sandhills now are.

You add more energy into the climatic system, the more violence in the convection due to heat causing thermals & currents.  Just like kettles boiling, that simple but with potentially devastating consequences.   Won't affect the planet too much but humanity, tundra, polar biomes are doomed........?

Mitigation now & Adaptation may help preserve much for our great great great grandchildren's generations but this current childrens generation are going to be badly affected because our generation are selfish sh*ts.

Climate has changed ever since the world existed. What they now call climate change is just another variation in the climate.

  • Popular Post

Mathematical analysis of physical data indicates that this variation is driven by human forcing of planetary radiation physics as it affects radiation, convection & absorption characteristics of the planet.  The key question is will we survive, or at least a version of human civilisation that we will recognise.

There are many possible solutions: which will be effective in a reasonable timescale - that is an important question to which we as humans need to find an answer to.

What is missing from this thread is discussion about man made climate change i.e. carbon emissions since the Industrial Revolution.

That was the acceleration point.

Even the most blinkered denier couldn’t deny this. Could they?

It’s on a different thread from a couple years ago where the man made climate change evangelist were reiterating nonsense that carbon emissions being the primary cause of climate change, was debunked and annihilated.
