How often do you hear song lyrics you consider profound?

Featured Replies

For some of us older guys we would make an argument that music used to be a lot more profound than it is these days, but the cream always seems to rise to the top and even now there's some very good songwriters out there. How often do you hear a song where the lyrics blow your mind and really stick with you?

I was just listening to "I will survive" by Cake. Gorgeous lyrics and an amazing song.

At first I was afraid
I was petrified
I kept thinking I could never live without you by my side

But then I spent so many nights
Just thinking how you've done me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to get along

And so you're back
From outer space
I just walked in to find you
Here with that look upon your face

I should have changed my f©©king lock
I would have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me

Oh now go
Walk out the door
Just turn around now, you're not welcome anymore

Weren't you the one
Who tried to break me with desire?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh not I, I will survive
Yeah
As Long as I know how to love
I know I'll be alive

I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
I will survive, I will survive
Yeah, yeah

It took all the strength I had
Just not to fall apart
I'm trying hard to mend the pieces
Of my broken heart

And I spent oh so many nights
Just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
But now I hold my head up high

And you see me
With somebody new
I'm not that stupid little person
Still in love with you

And so you thought you'd just drop by
And you expect me to be free
But now I'm saving all my lovin'
For someone who's lovin' me

Oh now go
Walk out the door
Just turn around now

you're not welcome anymore

Weren't you the one
Who tried to break me with desire?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh not I will survive
Yeah
As long as I know how to love
I know I'll be alive

I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
I will survive, I will survive

 go change your tampon.

Jimmy Buffet.

Why don't we get drunk and screw.

Jerry Jeff,

Up against the wall redneck mothers.

Now, can't remember any thing released since 2000, at least, that comes close to thought provoking.

Days of intellectual, question everything, social conscious forming music is long behind us.  Sadly, they are timeless, and not a damn thing has changed.

Last song I heard that gave one a pause for thought was from Jeff Beck, Guitar Shop, and 'Day in the House' track.  A 1989 release :coffee1:

More instrumental and pointing out the obvious ... 'Nothing is being done'

You are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when To run

You missed the starting gun

Most people don't even listen to lyrics ... so you're one step ahead of the competition.

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
(The end of the line)
I'm just glad to be here, happy to be alive
(The end of the line, of the line)

Another excellent artist with many albums, contributions to others and good lyrics. Took his own life from depression 2019..........

I ALWAYS HATED that song and found it crass and not in the least profound.

When utilizing song lyrics in your own product, failure to set forth the copyright data is plagiarism.

Again. You must hate this forum to endanger it multiple times a day with your stealing of other peoples work.

All my friends know the low rider (yeah)
The low rider is a little higher (yeah)

The low rider drives a little slower
Low rider is a real goer

Hey

Low rider knows every street, yeah
Low rider is the one to meet, yeah

Low rider don't use no gas now
Low rider don't drive too fast

Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip and see
Take a little trip, take a little trip
Take a little trip with me

Her Live version is on my VLC Player favorites list.  I always turn the volume up when it comes on.  You can tell her backup people and the audience are having a blast.  Spoiler alert.  They seem to be mostly gay.  I still love that song and that version, decades later.  Same deal with the Weather Girls, It's Raining Men- Live version.  They put me in a good mood.  That's profound enough for me.

My favourite (watch the hatemojis below)

If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A.
Well, there's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say

That I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land (I love this land)
God bless the USA

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land (I love this land)
God bless the USA

I'm a fan of the lyrics in Hendrix songs... very relevant, even now. However, many kids and old people are lost... although, the Eagle's song like "Hotel California" is a good example of the EU and other institutions now etc. haha.
