Whenever an academic criticizes President Trump I just remember they are an academic.  The entire "ivory tower" crowd hates Trump and will say anything to tear him down,  It's part of their culture.

Many nations are feeling the firm grip of Trump's little hands on their hips. He doesn't like it when people resist.  Maybe the Thais will go limp and let him have his way with them.

As many as 17 million Americans will lose their health insurance and many others will incur more medical debt under the budget bill President Trump signed into law last Friday

The tax bill, or the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” would cut more than $1 trillion in federal spending over 10 years for Medicaid, food stamps, Medicare and other programs, KFF reported. Such deep cuts in federal health spending will jeopardize the physical and financial health of tens of millions of Americans, KFF Health News reported on July 2.

The word "Could" in all those stories is important because at this point they are just pulling numbers out of thin air.
Note they never said, "Will"

The question should be where the Americans will get their hard drives in the future, since the US doesn't produce any, and 80% of hard drives are produced in Asia by US companies.

Probably the same place we buy our buggy whips now that SSDs are a thing.

Edit:  I can buy a 2TB SSD for what a 10 MB hard drive cost me back in the '90s.

I didn’t realize that ME conglomerates were buying up agricultural land (or trying to….did they succeed?).  Thailand (or any other country) would be foolish to sell off assets like that.   Should just stick with condos for retirees.

I think it’s something that was a big thing a few years back, then got profiled and so caused a big fuss.

purchasing Thai rice exports and exploring future joint investments in rice manufacturing and agriculture, with some concerns about illegal foreign land ownership through nominees. o

Key points:

Demand for Thai Rice:

Countries in the Middle East, due to high purchasing power and limited agricultural output, are significant importers of Thai rice. In 2022, the UAE expressed interest in purchasing Thai rice and potentially becoming a gateway for Thai agricultural exports to the region. Recent reports also indicate higher Middle East demano boosting Thai rice exports, according to trends mena. ®

Investment in Rice Manufacturing:

Beyond direct land acquisition, there's potential for private sector collaboration in rice manufacturing and other agricultural ventures in Thailand, such as the UAE's interest in jointly investing in rice manufacturing. &

Restrictions on Land Ownership:

Thai law generally prohibits foreigners from owning agricultural land, including rice fields, under the Foreign Business Act. However, there are concerns and reports of foreign land ownership, including by Middle Eastern businessmen, through Thai nominees, which is illegal. &

You don't see the scam when he recently launched a line of perfumes, the bottle is shaped like his body (ugly, overweight), I'm sure it has a very terrible smell.

His whole life has been one scam after the other, from the casinos to reality shows, to MAGA, building a wall on the Mexican border that never materialised, one scam after the other... But the blind cannot see..

There's no need for facts if you have half a brain. You have access to the internet, use it.

Firstly you claim everything is a leftist lie or msm propaganda that's presented to you so use your own factual sources.

If you know anything about economics you should be able to connect the dots that if tariffs are increased across the board the prices will increase as the importer not the exporter pays the tariffs. They don't eat them they pass them along to the consumer. A singular price increase is not inflation but whole sale tariff increases are not singular and clearly inflation which has already started from covid actions and continue on .

As far as you claiming I am non American because I tell the truth about the industry infrastructure being dismantled 40 odd years ago and not having the capacity or support to take over mfr like in wwII, its also a fact. Leading up to wwII we were already a world class mfr based economy so not too difficult to scale up production. We are no longer that country and won't be for a number of years, decades or ever due to costs within the country and the devastation caused by your buffoon idol.

Use you head for more than a hat rack.

Your time is up on this since you only like to argue and never provide any valid counter arguments just gaslight and deflect.

Since its a go go go in your mind and world, don't let us stop you!

You mean Trump has destroyed the economy in 6 months? Tell us what he has done to destroy our manufacturing base.?

Your rhetoric, not facts, is, as usual, pathetic

Finally!  Long overdue.  The remaining US expats will see more and more hate in Thailand. Tax laws will get more stringent trying to make up and punish Westerners. Locals will get more hostile towards westerners. There is just no way out at this point.

Did I say Trump destroyed the US mfr base?  Show me where I said that.

I said the usa has had no major mfr base for decades and certainly not since the 70' and it doesn't.

Trump introducing huge tariffs all at once on all our trading partners and then claiming it will bring  back mfr to usa quickly, not happening. Yeah in 5 to 10 years maybe.

Until then higher tariffs transfer higher cost to the consumer not the exporter. In turn you are gonna see more inflation as a by product.

DT has a bizarre obsession with trade deficits. This has no basis in reality. If I shop at the supermarket, there is a trade deficit - they have my money. But I have the goods... where is the unfairness? It doesn't exist.

The stupidity of DT's position can be seen in the Botswana tariffs. Their big export is diamonds. The big buyer is the US. Somehow, DT sees this as a great injustice, so he hit then with a 37% tariff. This is flat-out irrational, and everybody should stop pretending there is any sense behind DT's actions.

Really, and you have done better that Trump? What an arrogant statement

One thing is certain. He is accomplishing very little, he will NOT bring manufacturing back to America, which is stupid over priced (I am here now and inflation is raging at 20% or higher right now), he is causing alot of pain, he is losing support, destroying businesses, and consumer confidence, he does not have a coherent plan, and he is a destructive nimwit.

It is about showing what he can get away with. It’s about showing his enemies that what they support, he can tear down. It is all about displays of brute strength. He gets off on that, and in that sense, it seems not so much an autocracy but a flexocracy. Let me show you how I can flex my bicep as I use it to power my fist coming into your face.

Trump’s idea of power. If I can destroy, if I can defile and march on relatively unscathed and unpunished, that makes me powerful. Other people can’t get away with it, but that’s how dominant and superior I am.

SpiderMike,  You must be living in a parallel universe. where do "you people" come up with this crap made up out of whole cloth?    "I'm here right now and inflation is 20%"  555   Are you smoking some of that Thai weed?

  • The annual inflation rate for the United States, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), was 2.7% for the 12 months ending June 2025. This figure comes from U.S. Labor Department data released on July 15, 2025, reflecting a slight uptick from the 2.4% recorded in May 2025. This "headline" inflation rate includes all items, including volatile food and energy prices.
  • The core inflation rate, which excludes food and energy, was 2.9% in June 2025, indicating a slightly higher underlying trend when stripping out those volatile sectors.   And manufacturing jobs are on the rise across the board.

Current State of Manufacturing Jobs
  • Employment Figures: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data from the Current Employment Statistics (CES) survey, total manufacturing employment stood at approximately 12.93 million jobs in June 2025, up from 12.87 million in May 2025. This reflects a month-over-month increase of about 60,000 jobs, seasonally adjusted. The year-over-year growth from June 2024 (12.75 million) shows a net gain of roughly 180,000 jobs, or about 1.4%.
  • Trend: This marks a continuation of a modest upward trend that began in mid-2023, with manufacturing employment growing at an average monthly rate of about 0.1% since then. However, the sector remains below its pre-pandemic peak of 13.4 million jobs in February 2020.
Recent Drivers
  • Clean Energy Investments: The U.S. Department of Energy’s 2024 Annual U.S. Energy and Employment Report (USEER) notes that clean energy manufacturing—spurred by the Biden-Harris administration’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and Inflation Reduction Act—added 142,000 jobs in 2023 alone, with growth continuing into 2025. This includes factories for solar panels, wind turbines, and battery production, contributing to the recent uptick.
  • Traditional Manufacturing: The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) reports that manufacturing value-added output was $2.90 trillion at an annual rate in Q1 2025, down slightly from $2.937 trillion in Q4 2024 but still robust. Durable goods manufacturing (e.g., machinery, autos) saw a $4 billion increase to $1.566 trillion, supporting job growth in those segments.
  • Regional Hotspots: States like Texas, Michigan, and South Carolina have seen localized booms, with automotive and aerospace sectors adding jobs due to reshoring efforts and EV production.
Projections and Challenges
  • Short-Term Outlook: The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED) data and BLS projections suggest manufacturing employment could reach 13.1 million by mid-2026 if current growth holds, driven by ongoing investments in domestic supply chains.

I know who lives in a parallel universe, if they think those numbers are really what people notice when they go shopping.

I don't live in the US of course, but I see the price increases in Thailand, where there is no inflation, if you have to believe the government figures, and that isn't different in any other country

That's some fascinating information. I wish that was the reality, there's not a single person that I speak to in America (with the exception of those that are making millions of dollars a year) that are not experiencing hardship right now, that are not complaining about the skyrocketing cost of living, and that are not complaining about the highly diminished quality of life. So who's living in a parallel universe, the one who's reading statistics or the ones who's are living on the ground, in the US?

I guess you aren't talking to many Americans.  I am not experiencing any hardship even though my income has dropped dramatically over the past year.  Gas prices are down.   Food prices have become lower.  I just live a very middle class lifestyle.

No, the US does not charge a 300% import tariff on motorcycles or motor vehicles. While the US has increased tariffs on certain imports, including motorcycles and vehicles, the highest rate is 25%. Specifically, a 25% tariff is applied to many steel and aluminum imports, as well as autos, including motorcycles. There is also a 25% tariff on USMCA-compliant autos imported from Canada and Mexico.
