A 31-year-old Malaysian tourist was rescued from drowning at Karon Beach on the evening 12 July, thanks to the quick response of lifeguards, fellow beachgoers and rescue volunteers. The man was pulled unconscious from the sea but was successfully resuscitated before being rushed to Chalong Hospital, where he is now in a stable condition.

According to the lifeguard on duty, the incident occurred after the man and a female companion entered the sea in an area clearly marked with red flags, indicating hazardous swimming conditions. Despite whistle warnings from lifeguards, the pair continued into the water.

Within 10 minutes, powerful waves swept both tourists away. Lifeguards acted immediately, rescuing the woman first. The man later resurfaced unconscious. Onlookers initiated CPR until rescue personnel arrived and took over.

The rescue team has reiterated warnings about dangerous sea conditions, highlighting the presence of strong winds and large waves along Phuket’s coastline. Tourists are urged to strictly follow all safety signage and avoid swimming in restricted zones.

This latest incident comes less than a month after a similar tragedy at the same beach. On 20 June, a 48-year-old Russian man drowned after defying red flag warnings and entering the surf. He died in front of his wife and child, leaving onlookers traumatised.

Authorities continue to stress the importance of beach safety and respecting lifeguard instructions during rainy season.

There should be a fee involved using the rescue services, it just idiotic first ignoring the red flags, then going in the water, it is wild down these beaches at the moment,
