How do I get rid of boredom?

Featured Replies

I've always enjoyed remote control cars, though they are weather dependent. I also volunteer teach 8 hours/week. BIke ride for cardio (ALSO weather dependent). There are too many things to do, just use your imagination.

Yeah, if not say something Trump don´t like, then he will do what he can to destroy your business. Freedom to stay??? Trump can deport anyone! Freedom to oust???? Really? Trump decides who should stay or go. Try oust him. He has so many skeletons in the wardrobe, that it would fill North Carolina.

I just received a lifetime ban from Facebook for my anti-government anti-FB posts. The final straw was when I criticized FB ending with "WTF Zuck?"

Autocracy is here in Murikkka whether you'll admit it or not.

I brought my RC boats here, but I never used them. I won't bother now as we'll be leaving here within a year or so anyway. I didn't know where to get glow fuel and other supplies here though I know people use it. Maybe Bangkok?

Cars are battery operated so fuel isn't a problem.

Posting on media can get you banned as you saw, but saying things in public they can't do a thing. I've seen it many times when officials and politicians were swore at, called names, etc. Nothing they can do unless it's threatening.

When we go home, I'll get back into it, along with Helis and electric boats. They have some very fast ones now, along with 1/4 scale gas cars and boats. Great for the beaches.

Are you sure? The New Gestapo is throwing people in the gulag for publicly speaking out about Palestine.

I just found out those awesome looking remote model jets are ALSO battery operated! Can't wait to get some (actually have to wait until next year).

The music never gets boring, 2 free concerts last week but nothing like it used to be when we went to about 12 a month.

Treason is a different matter. If you're talking about inciting riots, hatred or the like, that can get you in real trouble.

Freedom of speech, freedom to vote in officials that actually stay in. Freedom to stay in the country without taking any measures that could someday change for the worse. Freedom to oust officials that aren't doing their jobs or holding those accountable who break the laws, at least most of the time.

good luck with that.

They have so many things these days. I haven\t kept up with it living here but what I see I'd like to get someday. I remember going to the Old Rhineback Aerodrome in Red Hook New York to see the old WW 1 airplanes then they had RC planes, some pretty large. I remember standing near the landing strip and having a jet fly past full speed less then 10 feet above the ground 10 yards away. Pretty exciting for a pre teen. .....image.jpeg.5122b8f2125ce8f43c3013c00638fba8.jpeg.

It's what the US has had all along.

You will probably quickly get bored in Samui.

You say really nothing about any hobbies.  Golf? Watching sports?

On the big picture if you are past partying, ladies and travel, life can get a little boring anywhere.  Normal for many once you hit a certain age the excitement of life has mostly passed.

Just try to stay healthy and keep contact with your daughter.

Golf and watching sports are a form of torture for most sane people.. Try some decent acid.

Cycle further; its a great way to build up a thirst

It seems like your boredom is linked to returning to America.

Last year I sold my condo in Pattaya (Jomtien) and came back to the US. I have enough savings (around 500K USD) and I applied for SS to start from September. I will get around $3,000 per month. I am bored in the USA, though I live in a FL beach town. I like beaches. My US daughter lives in IL and she is a health care provider. I am buying a ticket in October to Thailand. I have lived on and off in Thailand for almost twenty years. Initially it was all fun. Alcohol. drugs, and ladies. Now at the age of 65, I lost interest so much so that I don't like drinking even. Only weed keeps me high which is not legal in FL. I feel married people are lucky. I have a daughter in Thailand who will go to the university next year and I am ready to take care of her expenses still she graduates. Her mom is OK and we are good friends and she has her own income but she plans to move to Issan next year when my daughter goes to the university. I simply cannot live in Issan. I am planning to relocate to Koh Samui that has better air quality than anywhere else in Thailand. I also need to buy a health insurance in Thailand. In the last twenty years I have visited more than fifty countries . So, there is no desire to travel anymore also except a trip to China in the next couple of years.

Any suggestions to kill time (not going to bars everyday) to get rid of boredom? Is Koh Samui a nice place to live? I have been to Koh Samui once ten years ago. I don't like Phuket. I like beaches.

Would rather die than ever set foot on Samui. BORING!

You can say anything you want to the president as long as it isn't threatening, and there's nothing he can do. Trump can't deport US citizens. If you break any laws, you can go to jail. If Trump does anything that crosses the line, he can be ousted. Most presidents have skeletons and he isn't exempt. If you don't live or have lived in the US, you know very little of how it works. No ones immune to an American's laws. You cross the line you'll pay, and there's no place to hide.

Congrats! Now you made it sound like the promised land again. 😂 We all know, that just a lot BS!

You need to be very proactive, try to find some hobbies, try to find things that interest you, travel more, discover the world, discover Thailand, be more curious, have an open mind, and change up what you're doing. Today not tomorrow. And you might want to also look at where you're living, maybe it's not the appropriate spot for you. I would also look at whether or not your relationship is sufficiently fulfilling, assuming you have one.

Boredom is your own fault, there are dozens and dozens of things of interest that you can be focusing your attention on.

America can be a very boring place, especially for a single man who is not exceptionally wealthy, or who does not look like a 20 something blonde surfer type, or a movie star. There's a predictability, a monotony, a lack of joy, a bitterness, and a extraordinary lack of fulfillment on the part of the majority of the population there.

The only people who know how the US is are those that lived there or live there now. Going by videos tells very little. The US has everything anyone could want in one place. Politics are the same everywhere. Do you think Thailand is the promised land?

That's only an assumption, as no one, even if you live there, knows how the majority feels. People there are still enjoying daily sports, cookouts, beach life, fishing, hunting, cooking, gatherings of friends and family, and a million other things. I hear daily what my 5 grown children and their families are doing, and it's the same as they've done all the time I was there.

Boredom is just as another said it is. It all depends on the individual. Thailand is one of the most boring places on earth. Besides the beaches, there isn't much that isn't all the same. The US has everything all countries on earth have, all in one place.

If you're bored, you need to initiate things. If the place you're living doesn't have what you need to entertain you, like the US does, you move to a place that does.

Some are content tending a garden, and that can be done almost anywhere, seasonally or indoors. Some need outdoor sports. Some like hot weather and some 4 seasons, so you go where you'll enjoy what you like. Some come here and stay indoors in AC rooms most of the time. You can do that anywhere.

I live in Chiang Mai and stay busy enough with duplicate bridge a couple times a week and playing in two pool leagues. Mind you this is NOT competitive level stuff. In a motorcycle group that goes on regular outings. I also teach math eight hours a week to Myanmar high school refugee students. That led to being asked to join Rotary to assist in a scholarship program they run.  I did zero of those things before I retired.

Whatever you like to do, or think you want to try, there is a Facebook group for it, no matter where you live. I actually think there's more opportunity here to stay busy than in the US, but to each his own.

Great example, meaningful activities that are also social. You'll be less bored if you have more meaning in your life.

Boredom is a state of mind too; others are right.  I used to be big into meditation, did short retreats with the monks,  since then, never gotten bored anymore.

Does the OP have friends or close people you do stuff with?  Most people are dissatisfied when they don't have at least one or two like-minded people to chat and do stuff with.

Married for 19 years, wife is close to perfect, but we live in Isan......living 'free'.....her house, farm, restaurant, bar......being pulled this way and that way at the moment.....driving me mad.

Where in Issan? It's a big place! Some parts are jollier than others. I travelled all over at different times. Whereabouts are you?

Take up a hobby. It will pass the time and you may get to be very good at what ever you decide on.

Welcome to the club!

I find boring daily routines more stimulating, and be able to move around and not being stuck. Even next paradise will finely be boring, and my experience, a base in Isan works well to withdraw to when you bored of other destinations again.

We established a god base in Isaan which is well taken care of by her parents, and we stay there for a few months, travel for a week or two, as well a few months in Europe. Still tired of traveling, but is the best options I have for the moment.

A base in Isaan is cheap, and with gym and other facilities you got a great place to reset before heading out again.

All depending you got someone you care there of course, if not, Isaan is a slow suicide with or without a good gf or wife who actually contributes to your happiness.

For me Isaan is a nice retreat where I exercise, ride motorbikes, have animals I care for, easy living, healthy living.

Koh Samui is okay to visit for a month at the time, same as every other tourist destination, and single life in tourist destinations, can be a struggle for most, especially the boredom that Comes out of to many options, but still nothing that gives any meaning. My experience, but I think maby can agree, living in paradise becomes the daily routine

Managing to get a lifetime ban on fb? Did you call in a bomb threat? Or threatened to kill someone?
