Naked American Man in Drug-Fuelled Frenzy Found in Condo Drainage Tunnel, Bites Rescuers

In a bizarre and disturbing incident in Bangkok’s Chom Thong district, a naked and frenzied American man was found inside a storm drain behind a condominium complex on Kanlapaphruek Road. The man, later identified as 28-year-old Jack, refused assistance and bit a female rescue worker during efforts to extract him from the drainage system.

Police from Bang Khun Thian Police Station were alerted by the condo’s management after residents spotted a man’s legs sticking out of a drain opening near the canal behind the property. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jack fully nude, inside a concrete gap between the condo’s embankment and the canal drainage pipe, with only his legs visible.

Rescue teams from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and Bangkok’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (Bangkok Fire and Rescue) were dispatched with hydraulic cutters and concrete drills to free the man. However, the situation quickly escalated when Jack became aggressive and repeatedly shouted in English that he did not want help and could escape on his own.

Despite his resistance, rescuers proceeded with care, eventually crawling into the confined space. Using a cloth strap to secure Jack’s torso, they managed to drag him out of the drain while additional teams pushed his legs from the canal side. During the extraction, the man became violent, biting a female rescue worker’s wristwatch strap and chewing it while growling incoherently.

Once freed, Jack continued to behave erratically, spitting at emergency workers and speaking in a disjointed manner. Medical personnel restrained him with a face mask and secured him to a stretcher for safety. A physical examination revealed only minor abrasions, but his behaviour strongly suggested acute intoxication, likely from narcotics.

A foreign resident of the condo assisted police in translating Jack’s incoherent speech. He claimed to have once lived in the building with a Thai girlfriend but was unable to explain how or why he had ended up inside the drain. His statements remained confused and inconsistent.

Jack was taken to Somdet Chaophraya Hospital for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Authorities have contacted the U.S. Embassy and are working to locate any relatives. The condominium’s management is reviewing records to determine whether Jack had ever officially resided there.

Drugs and alcohol in an already unstable mind is why many go off. Not a good combo.

Am I the first one to read this here and think that this poor guy hasn't hurt anyone, was obviously in a state where he was harming himself, whether on something or mentally ill, and could use a little compassion?

And so are ignorant people. If this guys actually on drugs then I'd say ice or ya-ba big time, hasn't slept for days and had a total paranoia freak out.

You're right of course but I find it hilarious.  Hope he gets better and can laugh at this later in life.  What a story  and he will have the pics and the article.  If I woke-up naked in a sewage drain, the last thing I would want is anyone to help me.

I've never been diagnosed with ignorance. So tell me, what's it like?

He could have had a non drug mental breakdown, if so, we should have sympathy for him.

Alas only the truly ignorant would think ignorance can be diagnosed. It can certainly be displayed though to which you do a pretty good job.

Yes Mike, I agree.

Psychosis doesn't only occur with drug use, such as Cannabis or Amphetamines.

It can & does happen without a previous medical history to anyone.

Plenty of literature on CIP - Cannabis induced psychosis.

Cannabis-Induced Psychosis

Psychosis triggered by marijuana use is rare, but it is one of the most serious potential side effects.

Some people who use marijuana may experience acute symptoms of psychosis, including paranoia, delusions, disorganized thinking, or even hallucinations. It is not very common, but cannabis-induced psychosis can be very serious and may need to be treated. Most cases of psychosis related to cannabis are acute and temporary, but there are some troubling associations between marijuana use and the development or worsening of chronic psychotic conditions like schizophrenia.

Cannabis-induced psychosis is a set of psychotic symptoms triggered by marijuana use. Many mind-altering substances have the potential to cause these symptoms, and it is less common with marijuana use than with other drugs, especially hallucinogens.

Marijuana psychosis is possible but not very common. For most people who use cannabis occasionally, psychosis is not a big concern. However, some people may be more vulnerable, and there may be some lasting consequences of marijuana use for mental health.

You missed the point completely but never mind. I'm sure you will Google cannabis psychosis and then copy/paste the first article you find right here (with your added emphasis).

And, as if on queue.

Now, how's your reading comprehension?

We have a story about one unfortunate guy, out of probably several thousand, who may have smoked or otherwise consumed cannabis. This one guy has then had some form of psychotic event. We don't know for sure what has caused it.

I said cannabis psychosis is real. Some others here have acknowledged that, with some offering anecdotal evidence. I did not say it was the confirmed cause of this, or any of the other frequent reports of inexplicably weird, dangerous or violent behaviour from obviously disturbed individuals. It may be rare, like the one in several thousand I suggested above, but it does exist.

Anyway, thanks for the copy/paste of an article that also includes the words,  "serious... acute symptoms... very serious... acute and temporary... some people will be more vulnerable", etc. (my emphasis).

The point is it's very rare and mental illness is involved. Your posts are without doubt demonising dope and now I've posted something that explains what cannabis psychosis is your trying to deflect and squirm your way out of this. This guy has serious mental health issues and as I stated earlier my thought is a massive paranoia freak out from taking way too much ice or ya-ba and being awake for multiple days in a row.

No. He's a classic Florida Man.

His behavior wouldn't even make Page 28 in the Tallahassee local newspapers. There it's a "dog bites man" sort of story. Ho hum.
