A 13-year-old schoolboy is in serious condition after he was violently attacked by a fellow student with a metal pipe in a dispute over a ฿300 loan. The shocking incident took place in Ban Pong Khong Tai, Huai Ton subdistrict, Mueang district, Chaiyaphum province.

Police from Mueang Chaiyaphum Police Station and emergency responders from Chaiyaphum Hospital were called to the scene. There they found a young boy, identified only as Master A, suffering from severe head injuries, his face and torso covered in blood. He was given first aid on site and rushed to hospital.

A 2-centimetre wide, 80-centimetre long steel pipe was recovered at the scene and is believed to have been used in the assault.

Witnesses confirmed that the alleged attacker, identified only as Master B, aged 15, is a fellow student at the same school and in Mathayom 3, while the victim is in Mathayom 1. The two boys were reportedly close friends, often spending nights at each other’s homes and having no prior history of serious conflict.

According to accounts from the scene, the victim had visited the older boy after school and brought up a ฿300 loan that had been used to purchase an item online. The conversation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the older boy grabbing a steel pipe and striking the younger student multiple times in the head.

Mr. Sangwian, 74, the victim’s grandfather, expressed his disbelief, stating, “They were so close, like brothers. I never imagined something like this could happen. It must have been the money that triggered it.”

Police investigator Pol. Lt. Kanti Piansungnoen confirmed that the suspect confessed to the assault and admitted to using the pipe to strike the victim. The steel pipe has been taken in as evidence.

Authorities have begun proceedings in accordance with the juvenile justice system. Multidisciplinary child protection officers have been called in to conduct a joint investigation and the legal process will continue under the applicable child and youth laws.

Is there a father in the family of that that aggressor?

If there is a father, he would have to be a psychopath to explain such a behaviour...

I am always amazed that these violent acts seem to happen so often, when i have never heard of anything similar in my country when i was a teen....

The absence of a father could explain it, which would bring out the question, who really would be responsible for this tragedy.....

Why be surprised about the pipe being used?

There's plenty of graphc photo on TV news and even more so on social media displaying knives, guns. pipes etc used in fights etc.

No.. those are still blurred out as far as I know. However, acting out using violence seems to be the norm and kids have no understanding of being responsible for their actions. Parents and schools do not teach this very much. Also, there seems to be a lot of gangs using violence so maybe it is bragged about amongst friends in the school as well.

They aren't blacked out on many social media sites including home grown Thai social media sites, and this is where many Thais get their news.

My Thai son used to watch mainstream Thai news programs on TV. Then he mentiond how much is poorly, totall inaccurately reported plus it's so biased, plus watch 2 channels re the same story and get a very differet report.  He nows scans a small number of social media sites where he's willing to listen to what's been said, but he doesn't rush to believe.

I grew up and lived my first 20+ years in NYC, which was guesstimated to have a daytime population of 20 million back when.  A few times I've witnessed things to some degree, like traffic accidents, brawls, fires, etc.  Every time I saw one of the these reported in the news there would be something off.
