Police raided a well-known entertainment venue in Bangkok’s Wang Thonglang district early in 18 July, arresting 40 individuals, including Thai and foreign nationals and seizing drugs, firearms and ammunition in what authorities described as a successful anti-drug operation.

The raid was led by Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, alongside Pol Maj Gen Noppasit Mitthaprakdee, Commander of Narcotics Suppression Division 1, and other senior officers from Wang Thonglang Police Station and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau.

The operation stemmed from intelligence indicating that a Vietnamese national, Mr Van Khaos Dao, was involved in drug trafficking in the Wang Thonglang area. Police obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court (No. 442/2568, issued 16 July 2025) and planned a coordinated sting operation.

Upon raiding the venue, officers arrested Mr Van and recovered a cache of illegal substances in his possession, including eight sachets of “Happy Water” drug, 12 sachets of ketamine and five ecstasy pills.

Further inspection of the venue revealed it was still in operation at the time of the raid, with numerous patrons inside. A more extensive search uncovered additional quantities of ketamine, Happy Water, seven more ecstasy pills and a 9mm pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition.

Authorities then conducted urine drug tests on all 106 patrons and staff. Results revealed 40 individuals tested positive for drug use, comprising 25 men (2 Thais, 6 Burmese, 2 Canadians, 4 Indonesians, 2 Malaysians, 8 Chinese and 1 Vietnamese) and 15 women (10 Thais, 3 Burmese, 1 Laotian and 1 Chinese).

All suspects and confiscated evidence were transferred to Wang Thonglang Police Station for legal proceedings. Police confirmed that further investigations will be carried out to determine the full extent of the drug network’s operations and whether the establishment’s operators were complicit.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activity and unlicensed entertainment venues in the capital, warning that more inspections would follow.

40 out of 106 tells you that what they are doing is pointless and like trying to put out a house fire with a water pistol.

what a big catch.. 5 pills...hahaahahaah.. cost of pills and all else..lets say 20K ..cost of raiding???? obviously thats a skewed view on it but it simply does not make sense to me for that kind of find..maybe i am just pro freedom to do what U want without hurting anyone else

I used to live there. It really went downhill.

An example would be coming home from work and encountering a checkpoint where you and your bike are searched for drugs and weapons.

Interpol identified ‘Happy Water’, as avsynthetic drug popular in Southeast Asia’s nightlife, which normally contains a mixture of the following, methamphetamine, ecstasy (MDMA), ketamine, benzodiazepines, diazepam, tramadol and caffeine.

It’s often sold as a clear, odourless liquid or powder to be dissolved
