Cheap, but not as useful as a proper running machine ...

Just a suggestion. You can walk for as long as you like in any of the air conditioned shopping malls. Plenty of places to stop for a rest, and no end of entertainment (people watching).   II

  • Walking inside at a gym can have other threat's like getting to know people, and also see other people exercise so there is more aspects to it than just walking. Thailand is not especially suitable fo

Too many tripping hazards outside.

A leading cause of injuries leading to death such as broken hips in the elderly is falls.

Do you see Thai people walking much on our rough footpaths?

Cheaper still - Get out and run or walk etc.

What a wimp!

Look where you are going and find a market or shopping mall to walk round.

Can’t lug that big chunky thing around with us as we often bounce back and forth between wangnuea and cm. Though as others have mentioned, the only proper running machine is the one outside on the street or whatever.

Yes, at least in this neighborhood.

Not many walk long distances.

You said nothing about "people lacking optimal balance"!

I am thinking about average people like myself on retirement visas!

Don't you have at least one step in your house you could use?

The one thing I didn't mention is that I have balance issues, so having hand rails on either sides helps.

Have you considered gentle swimming as well to strengthen both your legs and your body generally ?

I have a complete gym.

Still the functionality of a step like this Trumf a stair

At hotels and condos without gyms I use the emergency staircases

Temple on a hill, many have staircases with handrails and/or the dragon. Personally do three or four different ones a week, and definitely walk in the hills or in the village on other days. In any case, it’s probably a good idea to stay active before it gets too late for those who are able.

Everything is possible, but as mentioned earlier, it is nice to go to a gym for the social part and see other people, as well establish routines and get out of the house.

To many realize what they should had done years ago to late

Go for a walk around your local park etc and do the same thing.

Most people in Gyms have headphones on and are not interactive!

I know I have asked this before, but has anything changed? I am 78 and getting slower. I want to play golf again, but I need to walk better. I want a gym that has a running machine (not that I will ever do that), so I can walk gently for a period of time. Probably no more than 20 minutes max to start.

So it needs to be cheap (or at that end of the market) but with something to look at while I'm walking. A TV or even a view of the street to occupy my attention. I used Tony's for years (life membership, best value deal I have ever had), but that was years ago.

I live just off Thepprasit but can travel.

Look forward to your suggestions.

Depends on the gym. A/C is nice when working out, having weights and exercise machines is convenient. Sauna and steam room is fantastic. Big pool for lounging. Mix it up with beach walks.

Did you read the OP. Also what I replied to.

I'm with you, 71, average 6km a day, take different routes, meet people, most Thais now recognise me, even have coffee stops...why waste time, and money at a boring gym.

555, I got a downvote, wish I knew why.

Downvotes should be forced to say why.
