If a $3 increase is going to keep anyone from coming to Thailand, I doubt their spending will be missed.

The solution:

ANYONE upon 1) entering or 2) leaving Thailand via air or land border pays 100bt.

BUT

How the monies are collected is a different story.

You forgot war games at the border. Thailand not been in the headlines in the west for a while.

Now they are.

Foreign offices issuing warnings.

Excellent tourist "promotion'.

Feel sad for those whose jobs depend on it.

They lurch from one crisis to another as their inability to manage anything properly becomes evident.

Nobody will come in significant numbers while this nonsense is going on at the border.

Indeed, I am sorry to say but it does indicate again the intiligence level of the Thai elite.
Yes I know the money they do have, (although airport can't improve them?)
But using brains that is mostly too much to ask.

The introduction of tourist taxes at airports was probably introduced under false promises that it would cover tourist insurance, which probably didn't come to anything, but they put the money in their own pockets, considering all the begging funds that start as soon as someone has had an accident and, as usual, had no insurance and want others to pay for their stinginess/stupidity!

And as usual they will be Flip Flopping over the should we increase or not

Might upset the Foreign Tourists coming to Thailand

I think not 🫣

The traveller does not notice such a fee increase directly, as the amount is included in his flight ticket and the fees incurred there are not broken down.

Thailand Eyes Passenger Fee Hike to Fund Airport Upgrades

Great , anything else they  can come up with to discourage the tourists.

They Like the Money , not the people .

Thailand has one of the cheapest Airport Taxes - plenty of bashing going on here without people realising how high the taxes are in their own countries.

Did this 'Tourist Tax' actually go through ?? - things have been very quiet since the original announcement, they delays etc...

But, it would be excellent optics for Thailand if this tax existed and it supported medical care for tourists injured or falling unwell here.

They always seem to quote international norms when it suits them. When it doesn't, you get: "This is Thailand. You don't understand."
