The playbook the guilty use to cover up famine, as in Gaza

Step one: ban  the media. Israel has forbidden foreign journalists from entering Gaza since October 2023.

Step two: ban the word ‘famine’:  Israel and the US protested at the word “famine”. In December 2024 the US Famine Early Warning System network (FEWS NET) issued a report showing famine conditions in northern Gaza, however it was compelled to withdraw such report.

Step three: statistics:  FEWS NET and its counterpart in the United Nations, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Mechanism (IPC), use three measures to test the severity of food crises – how much food people have access to, rates of child malnutrition, and death rates.

It has five levels ranging from normal and “stressed”, through “crisis” and “emergency” to phase five: catastrophe or famine. To determine “famine” requires that all three indicators pass certain criteria. Thus if a government wants to prevent the UN from declaring “famine”, all it has to do is block data gathering.

Step four: attack the sources

The most-cited death toll in Gaza is the Ministry of Health’s count of 61,800. Remember, foreign journalists are not allowed in Gaza to verify statistics. Thus, Israel describes this as the “Hamas Ministry of Health”, implying that its figures cannot be believed.

Step five: muddle the story

In every modern famine, it’s the poorest and most vulnerable who die first. The IPC uses 20% of families having no access to food as its threshold for IPC phase five, catastrophe or famine. Many of the others may have enough to eat.

That’s why the UN was serving 1.3 million hot meals per day to the most vulnerable and providing specialised therapeutic feeding, until Israel imposed a total blockade in March.

Israel insists the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) is providing enough rations for 2.1 million meals every day – one meal for every person in Gaza.

But how many are reaching the poorest 20% and how many are being consumed by members of armed gangs or Hamas? The GHF  has no way of knowing.

Step six: blame something or someone else

Most recent famines in Africa and the Middle East are caused by war though governments, and often aid agencies, prefer to blame the weather.

Israel can’t blame the weather, but it can blame Hamas, although there’s little evidence that it's stealing aid and causing famine.

If Israel were serious about preventing Hamas from stealing aid, it wouldn’t be running the GHF system  which is clearly vulnerable to theft, rather it would allow the UN to run its kitchens serving hot food directly to children.

Step seven: justify the crime

Many Israelis and their supporters don’t deny that there’s famine – they just say it’s not important. The argument is that Hamas and the Palestinians want to destroy Israel, and that justifies mass starvation.

But the media are still reporting that there's a famine in Gaza .

Palestinian supporters are using that as an excuse as to why there's no video evidence of famine in Gaza "Because the media are banned and they cannot film it " .

Lots of other video footage is coming out of Gaza , why no videos of famine ?

As a poster that has supported the deaths of 100s of Gazan infants under 1 years old, if there is an Israeli made famine in Gaza, do you support this as a means of killing Gazan infants, or only their death via ammunition and explosives etc? 🙂

Blame Hamas for stealing food for themselves and also selling it back to the people of Gaza that type of blame someone else? If Hamas released the rest of the hostages and laid down their weapons there would be enough food for everyone.

   Is this satire ?

You are clamming that the word "famine:" has been banned whilst simultaneously using the word "famine" in the thread title .

Is this a humour thread ?

Its unhealthy to concentrate on children all day .

Ben Gvir agrees with you.

...

Israel’s Ben Gvir denies hunger in Gaza, says he supports starving Hamas

Pathetic troll.

20,000 children have been killed and you don’t care.

You can’t answer questions about it.

   Opposite actually .

IDF are fighting Hamas .

Lets talk about how many Hamas have ben killed .

You want to avoid talking about that and just implying that its only children who have been killed .

You just want to avoid the fact that its a war between IDF and Hamas and try to portray it as a war between the IDF and children

It’s becoming more and more pathetic to deny these as the truth unfolds.

This guy will deny everything even when he builds a house in Gaza.

About 17 000 Hamas have already killed and there's about 17000 left to be killed .

See, you know how many children have been killed but you don't know how many Hamas have been killed

There is no genocide, there is no famine, there is the war started by Hamas

So, just for argument sake...  If Israel were able to eliminate Hamas, where does that leave them?

They've bombed Yemen, Iran, Syria, Lebanon and God only knows who else.  Just in this round of the 80+ year war.

I still contend the Brits (and the UN) left them with an intractable scenario.  They'll be fighting "enemies" for another 50-100 years.

He will never go to Gaza.

In the UK he would most probably be described as "All mouth and no trousers".

What does the phrase all mouth and no trousers mean?

idiom. British, informal. used to describe someone who talks a lot about doing something but never actually does it.

You are saying that about me .

That I am all mouth and trousers because I would never go to Gaza ?

I have actually been to Gaza

Have you been there ?

Who is the mouth and trousers one ?
