Crime Woman Arrested Over Human Trafficking Scam Linked to Chinese Crime Ring

A Thai woman accused of collaborating with a Chinese crime syndicate to traffic Thai nationals into scam operations in the Philippines has been arrested upon re-entering Thailand, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has confirmed. Ms Chanjira, also known as “Jane”, was apprehended at the Surasinghanat screening centre in Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, as she attempted to cross back into Thailand. Her arrest followed a border dispute that saw many Thai workers returning from Cambodia. DSI officials were alerted when immigration checks revealed that she was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court on 14 March 2025 (warrant no. 1796/2568). The charges against her include conspiracy to commit human trafficking, involvement in a transnational criminal organisation and coercing individuals to leave the country through deceit, threats, or abuse of power. According to investigators, Ms Chanjira acted as a broker in a criminal network involving at least 13 other suspects. Victims were misled into believing they were being recruited for marketing jobs promoting cryptocurrency investment in the Philippines. Upon arrival, however, they were forced to take part in scam operations, defrauding others by convincing them to invest in fictitious schemes. Those who failed to meet quotas or refused to participate were reportedly subjected to physical abuse by their captors. This case, classified as Special Case No. 60/2566 by the DSI’s Human Trafficking Division, highlights the growing concern over Thai nationals being exploited in scam centres abroad, particularly in Southeast Asia. Upon arrest, Ms Chanjira was informed of her legal rights under the Criminal Procedure Code. Her interrogation was audio-visually recorded and she was subsequently handed over to DSI investigators for prosecution. The operation was carried out in line with directives issued by Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Praedam, Director-General of the DSI, and Pol. Lt. Col. Jatupol Bongchommas, Deputy Director-General, as part of an ongoing crackdown on human trafficking and transnational crime networks.
