This project, crucial for alleviating congestion and boosting safety, has opened the floor for public input today, 31st July. The importance of Srisoonthorn Road cannot be overstated—it serves as a vital connector between Thepkrasattri Road and Cherng Talay. With an average of 21,000 vehicles using it daily, its role in supporting both the local population and the thriving tourism industry is immense. As Phuket continues to grow, this number is anticipated to rise, making the proposed improvements not just beneficial, but necessary. Today's public meeting, taking place at the Chalermprakiat 84 Pansa Building from 9 am to midday, presents an opportunity for residents, business owners, and commuters to voice their opinions. Attendees are encouraged to engage with maps and designs, pose questions, and provide suggestions. It's a chance for those affected daily by traffic conditions on Srisoonthorn Road to shape its future. The renovation plan encompasses a 5.95-kilometre stretch of Route 4025. It begins near the Supalai Hills housing estate and extends to the Cherng Talay Police Station. The first 5.25 kilometres will be converted into a four-lane highway, divided by a central raised median, streamlining traffic flow and reducing the likelihood of accidents. The last 700 metres will remain as a two-lane road but will feature new footpaths and painted median lines to enhance pedestrian safety. The proposed upgrades also include: Seven U-turn points to facilitate smooth navigation Installation of new street lighting to improve visibility Advanced drainage systems to prevent flooding Safety enhancements such as updated signage and road markings These improvements are designed not only to manage increasing traffic but also to mitigate accident risks, ensuring a safer journey for all. Construction is slated to commence in December and will take approximately 36 months to complete. While the duration of the project may seem extensive, the outcome promises to significantly improve daily commutes, reduce congestion, and cater to the island’s growing demands. Project engineers emphasise the critical need for this upgrade, highlighting that the new infrastructure will be instrumental in handling future traffic pressures. The Department of Highways is keen to ensure that the changes made will serve both the current and future needs of Phuket's residents and tourists. “We want to hear from the public,” a spokesperson from the Phuket Highways Office stated. “This road affects thousands daily, and we welcome all feedback.” The call for public involvement is strong, encouraging locals—especially those living or working along the construction route—to participate actively in the decision-making process. Their feedback could prove invaluable in addressing potential concerns and ensuring the project meets the community's needs effectively. This development on Srisoonthorn Road stands as a testament to Phuket's commitment to modernising its infrastructure in tandem with its economic and tourism growth.
