Next year, I'd like to take a Thai citizen on a 15-day vacation to Europe with me. The itinerary would also include Switzerland, the UK, and Italy. My question is: the initial visa would be for Switzerland. To allow her to travel to Italy and the UK and then return to Switzerland, do I need to apply for a new visa for the other two countries? Thank you.

Your Schengen visa will cover Switzerland and Italy, but you'll need a separate visitors visa for the UK.

What do you think? Better to apply here or in Switzerland?

You/she can do the UK visa there at the same time.

No probs.....never done a Schengen visa as we were both members of NATO......the UK visa can be a real chore if she has travelled abroad extensively......you have to log every trip she has ever made......takes me about two hours for the wife.

They don't hand out UK visas so easily.....she needs to demonstrate she has every reason to return to Thailand.....work, property, kids etc.

Agree....unless the UK trip is essential (it would be nice though) you could always skip it.....Switzerland and the Italian Lakes....breathtaking.

Why all the way to Calais? Then Genoa is better, and it would take two hours, in a nice truck. But unfortunately, the final destination will be Switzerland by air, so nothing. But thanks for the suggestions. Are you so knowledgeable because you've already tried it?

There is also France. I think these three countries are enough for the first time.

The Lake District has two in one - mountains and lakes.  No need for Switzerland and Italy.

With all the possible combinations, getting to Genoa is still the fastest way, even by sea.

Luckily, I have a house in Switzerland, I have a sister in Italy, and we'll see in France. Neither of us uses an iPhone, so I don't know.

There are actually only two lakes in the lake district,  all the rest are "mere's"  and "waters" apparently

Oh ok. So, yes: Calais will be the best option.

OP, you can obtain a Schengen Visa however thinking you have not outlined any of details of the "Thai friends" history.

Has she been to Europe previously.

Is she a gf that you want to take on a holiday.

First time I ever took my Thai partner to Australia the application for a single entry tourist visa was FAR from straight forward.

Such things as length of relationship, compelling reason for her to return to Thailand etc etc.

Some posts in this thread seem frivolous and you will find application process anything but that.

I apologise for any frivolity, The UK actually used to be quite easy to visit,  but just like anything else , the wrong uns  have spoilt it for everybody else

Remember that she will need to show resources for her trip. She will also need cash in her account and assets/commitments that guarantee her departure.

If you are a Swiss or Italian national, it will weaken her case because it will be a reason to stay. Prepaid hotel bookings in her name will help.

You are supposed to apply with the country of entry, maybe an initial stay in Germany or Austria could help.

Yes, applications need to be made in the applicants country of residence.

The Swiss and UK Visa Application Centres are in different locations.

If applicants are visiting other countries outside of the Shenghen Area that require a visa then Schengen Countries require that a visa is obtained for that country first, that used to be the case, I’m assuming it still is.

Applications are considered on the applicants circumstances, whilst any sponsor will be taken into consideration, they cannot guarantee that an applicant will abide by the terms of the visa.

Schengen Visas must be applied for via the Consulate with jurisdiction for the main destination within the Schengen Area, ie where the applicant intends to spend the longest time, if the applicant is intending to visit more than one Member State, spending an equal amount of time in each, then they should apply via the Consulate with jurisdiction for the point of entry into the Schengen Area.
