Sounds like you are signing in to Windows using a Microsoft account which would enable saving to the cloud by default. I use a "local" account which I created at  Win 11 install time and don't have an

That's the problem, for non-tech people. You need a pilot's license for Windows.

Yep, agree, I just put my chum onto a Chromebook, he does near nothing on a computer, will be perfect for him and his android stuff......😊

My post quoted a specific date when the cost for updates would kick in. You don't need to be a tech person to understand that, you just need to be someone who gets the facts before spouting off.

If you have been reading all of my posts, you would realize I have been using Linux for years, and would not touch Windows with a barge pole.

Perhaps I should have put a sarcasm alert on my first post about updates.

Run that past me again about getting the facts before spouting off.

I copy videos onto thumb drives to play them through a MxQ box on a large TV. Linux, easy as falling off a log.

I also copy videos for a friend in Chiang Mai using his Windows laptop. I have to fight my way through a forest of menus, and the copying process takes 3-4 times as long.

Try p!ssing on the boundaries of your reservation, so I will know where it is next time.

nyone who calls Linux users fools is a troll.

Anyone who uses Linux is a total fool. You're basically unable to use newer hardware because Linux won't be compatible. A large number of software is not compatible with Linux.

You'd really have to be touched in the head to run Linux.

As for Linux being safe, it's a total myth, a large number of Linux vulnerabilitiies are known and are constantly discovered.

so no problems with viruses?

and if you install recent software, it works?

I don't install recent software, I have an antivirus program and have had no problems. Sometime ago I had the computer cleaned, amazing amount of filth inside, the tech guy offered to install windows 10 for me, my answer, ''don't you dare''.

I don't want to get into "Luddite" mentality.

Tech is changing. Need to roll with the punches.

Copying videos to USB flash drive is so 20th century 😊 Especially if you have an Android box. It's relatively simple these days to set up a system where you can set up a download on one device and to stream or download it on any other.

Linux or Windows, makes no difference.

It's only if there is poor or no Internet that you need to start messing around with plugging and unplugging storage drives. Android boxes have their own storage, you can stream and or download directly from them.

I suggest you consult Gemini for the multiple reasons Linux is far less vulnerable than Windows, before posting complete rubbish on this forum.

Perhaps you could cite the large number of software that is not compatible with Linux, and the relevance of said software to everyday users.

So it's smarter to shell out good money to a company spying on me, searching for new ways to assault my wallet, and under daily attack from hackers?

But what kind of clear, logical thinking can I expect from a poster who defends paedophiles?

No problem for me, my 8 year old Lenovo AIO doesn't have the requirements for a Win 11 upgrade.

I don't know about your system, but my Android box only has about 4 GB capacity, Easier to run off a 64 GB flash drive when I have a TV series taking up 30 GB

Advanced users who want to stay on Windows 10 might do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. Supported until 2032.

I do have a smart phone and I can use it, but prefer not to  and its perfectly possible to survive without it.

I much prefer my laptop   No need to submit to pressure from tech companies    resist resist

That a very poor Android box. But you can still just leave the USB drive in the box if you need extra storage and download directly to it. I don't think that I've ever seen storage that small. Mine is with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which you can expand with an SD card. Cost 1000 baht.

In addition to that, unless you are building up a collection, you can stream the media directly from the box. I can set up a torrent on my phone and play it on the phone or via the Android box. No need for a USB drive at all.

I have an old smart phone that my stepdaughter gave me when she bought a new one. I had a new battery fitted. I don't use it though, it sits on my desk all day, I haven't had the need for one. I've played around with it but I find my PC more convenient, it's attached to a large screen. A smart phone is just too fiddly, look at it the wrong way and the screen changes to another site. It's a Vivo, my 18 yr son thinks it's a good phone, he (me) bought himself a Samsung and tells me all about the wonderful features on it......it's <deleted>. I have a 10,000 Baht digital camera if I want good pics and I use the Vivo to phone up someone (rarely) and I only use the PC to send emails, read the news, watch films, brows Youtube etc. I don't do social media....facebook, X, whatsup and the like so I don't need to carry the Vivo around with me in case I 'miss something important'.

You are more technically advanced than I am.

My son downloads/torrents TV series to a 2TB drive which he posts to me. The folders on the drive can't be opened in the Android box, so I open folders and copy the contents onto the 64 GB USB, using my laptop.

Possibly more cumbersome, but it works for me.

Lol, you're posting this on Aseannow. You do realise that everything you post on Aseannow is fed into an algorithm that tailors its adverts on Youtube to the words you post here?

If you think with Linux you're insulated from "spying" on the internet or from OS vulnerabilities you have a screw loose.

Yeah, they can actually, you just need to download CX File on the Android Box. Anyhthing on your laptop can then be opened on the Android Box.

Clueless.

I don't know, I use my 19 year old computer and here I am. Incidentally when I 'clean' the computer every evening I've noted I'm still getting updates? patches? for my windows 7

I can say when I was using Windows, I was hacked twice. The second hack destroyed the hard drive.

I have never had a security issue in Linux. In about ten years.

Noted the usual deflection away from the questions I put.

What makes you think I look at any ads on YouTube?
