Cost of alcoholic beverages in Thailand

Featured Replies

You can always vote with your feet and more than once I looked into the drinks list once seated, looked at my wife, got up again and left. On the way out staff asked if/what was wrong and I politely replied that I came for a drink without any intention to become a major shareholder of the establishment.

The bar in question might be in a tourist core of Bangkok and as old hands know "ฝรั่งรวย" which stands for "Foreigners are rich" 😉

Been in Thailand long time? If they print a receipt you need to change bars.🙃🙃

If you are looking for cheap beers, 2 bars in Jomtien and 1 Pratumnak have 39 baht bottles, between midday and 7pm.    I avoid, too many people, noisy, cigarette smoke, not a place I want to

  • Heineken tastes of nothing, and is so weak even Americans can drink it.

Please see the receipt from the Blues Bar in Bangkok - https://maps.app.goo.gl/75Uh9S5842jWWQny6?g_st=ac

They are charging 160 Thai baht for a small bottle of Chang beer. This could be the most expensive in Thailand, can anyone trump this price?

Easy, try to buy a small beer in a high-society place. I've paid 250 baht for a soda with a slice of lemon in such a local night club 15 years ago – dare not to revisit now, scared of the price increrase since then...
Going price for a soda with a slice of lemon is around 80 baht in the nightlife places normal folks like me can afford to attend – makes it 100 baht with tips – I don't drink beer, but 160 baht sounds reasonable in comparising...:whistling:

Bars are strange places with strange people.

I know a few guys who live around the corner, in another gated housing estate. I see these guys, huddled together every afternoon, drinking, talking, no chicks, just old angry men, bloody hilarious. 😂

Yeah, exactly. It´s soo sad to see. The same guys, going to the same bar, listening to the same music, drinking same amount of beers every day and order same food. Hell they even tell each other the same things every day, as all was so drunk the last day, no one ever remembers what was said. That´s the essence of a bunch of losers!

Each to his own.....for many the alternative, back in the UK at least, is far less attractive.

Many, many years ago in a "Gentlemen's" club on Ratchadapisek I have paid 250. But as I say that was a while ago.

What? Did you just compare to the same activity in the UK? You didn´t see anything wrong with such behavior pattern? ok, maybe I wasn´t so wrong about Brits anyway. 😂

Yeah, sure! That got to go for you, as we all have our different thresholds when it comes to decent. I fear you have gone native. Do you combine that decent evening with Lao Khao perhaps? 😂

Same in most of SE Asia. Plus the beer in some (e.g. Laos, Philippines, Myanmar) is way better!

I agree as I love Beer Laos Dark!

Why are you rashly making assumptions like a primary schoolyard bully? Grow up.

My comment didn't relate to the acceptability or otherwise of this type behaviour.

My comment was related to how their lives might compare to what they would face in the UK.

Think I paid about 1500B for three large Leo's once........but I was well gone.....the girls could have got away with twice that.

I was paying 2-300 for a small Thai dishwater beer 20y ago in the Banyan Tree. 160 baht even in a slightly above standard place in Bkk is probably fairly normal now, since Thailand is grossly overpriced on the alcohol front. Look at it in comparison with similar Vietnamese places.

Yes, this is what happens when the majority beer market is cornered by only two players - producing Chang and Singh as their 'premium' beers. Third fiddle Thai Asia Pacific brewing (TAP) makes Heineken for the local market and it tastes as good as Heineken anywhere else. They also sell Singapore's Tiger beer here. Like the bigger companies they too have downmarket brands. But the point is correct, not much competition results in inflated prices-versus-quality in what looks like price fixing - but you could say the same for whiskey and other liquors. The price here is always the same no matter where you buy it. This issue (alcohol producers cornering the market) was something the progressive Move Forward Party (now renamed People's Party) vowed to tackle. Probably another reason the establishment shut them down and stopped them from forming a government in the last election even though they won the most votes.

Yeah, sure it was. You know, if it´s rainy, you put on a rain coat, and when it´s sunny you take it off, right?

.....I'd just use an umbrella in Thailand......you might be stupid enough to wear a raincoat when its 90% humidity and 35C......I'm not.

Same same, you just failed to understand the underlying meaning. Good on you
