A dramatic late-night police operation unfolded in Pattaya after a Korean man armed with a gun barricaded himself inside a 7-Eleven convenience store on Thepprasit Road.

The incident began just after midnight in the early hours of 8 August, when police received a report that an armed foreigner had entered the store and was hiding in the storage room at the back. Responding swiftly, Pattaya police deployed patrol officers and an armed investigative unit to the scene, surrounding the building and initiating negotiations.

Tensions remained high for several hours as officers attempted to persuade the man to surrender. The suspect, identified as a South Korean tourist, refused to come out despite prolonged negotiations.

Authorities were finally able to bring the situation under control and apprehended the man without any reported injuries. He is now in police custody and being questioned to determine his motive for the incident.

Police have yet to confirm what prompted the man’s actions, and an investigation is ongoing. Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from the store and surrounding area as part of the inquiry.

Local residents and staff at the 7-Eleven were left shaken by the ordeal, which fortunately ended without violence.

UPDATE
Armed Standoff at Pattaya Convenience Store as Chinese National Surrenders After Two-Hour Siege

A dramatic late-night police operation in Pattaya ended with the arrest of a 35-year-old Chinese national who allegedly entered a convenience store brandishing a handgun, sparking panic among locals and tourists. Police have now confirmed that the man was Chinese and not Korean as first reported.

The incident occurred at a store near the entrance of Soi Thepprasit 8. Police said they were alerted to the situation shortly after midnight and quickly mobilised a large team, including plainclothes officers and members of Pattaya’s tourist police.

Upon arrival, officers found the store surrounded by market vendors and bystanders. Police immediately cleared the area, evacuating people from the danger zone before sealing off the front and rear exits. For more than two hours, officers attempted to negotiate with the armed man.

A Chinese interpreter was eventually brought in, persuading the suspect, later identified as Mr Zhang Shuai,  to surrender peacefully. He emerged from the back of the store with his hands raised before being taken into custody. Police recovered a modified Glock 19 replica capable of firing .380 calibre rounds.

Store employees told officers that Zhang had rushed inside claiming he was being pursued by another Chinese national. Witnesses said another man did follow him into the shop briefly before leaving, after which Zhang appeared to be hiding at the rear of the premises. Staff noticed he was armed, prompting them to flee and call police.

Zhang was taken to Pattaya police station for questioning as officers investigate his claims and determine whether the incident was linked to a personal dispute or other criminal activity.

The original headline was based on the information available at the time and reflected what was reported by multiple outlets from the scene.

The article was posted within an hour after the incident and as with any emergency there is a degree of confusion, but was based on best available information, at that time.

As with any developing story, more information becomes available and updates are posted to reflect the changes.

Dare you to say it to his face.  That's a Chinese thug. The tattoos give him away. They can be incredibly psycho.

Be careful, be very careful calling foreigners psycho, or similar on this forum.

You'll get hostility, nasty comments from a couple of members and will be reported.

Take heed.

You can thank me later. 😎

"The tattoos give him away. They can be incredibly psycho" - that also describes some ladyboys ...

Same same. I don't have any guns either. My wife has some exceptionally large knives though.

Probably few months in jail before being deported. Guy done it in samui and got out of the shop and away , but they knew who he was and arrested him few days later in a bar .

Pretty sure he done less than a year before being released.

Well, it is in Pattaya. 🙂

I feel bad for him.  He woke up and realized how much he was getting rinsed on Soi 6 and WS at the GoGos....2.5 K for Barine, 10 drinks (2K +) and then 7K for LT.  Then he was soooo drunk, could not "perform", passed out and then woke up and realized she was gone to Mookota with her "Sisters" and getting railed by her Thai BF or Tomboy GF.

The struggle is real.

It will be interesting to hear the end of this story.

The guy doesn't appear to have tried to steal from the store, damage anything or anyone so what was it all about?
