You leave your home in the morning and assume all is good in the world. Then this? How horrific. It is likely the lives of those two will never be the same.    Hope the creep gets locked up

You are probably thinking America or England. Both unsafe, but Europe is full of nice safe places.

More chance of a tax rebate. They won't give a toss let alone a baht.

In today's world where everyone oth than the billionaires is being squeezed harder and harder,  nowhere is safe.

One of my sons is a fireman. He says that should you ever find yourself on fire, cthe first thing to do is throw yourself down on the ground (ideally on the side that is on fire) to smother as much of the flames as possible and prevent the rising heat and flames causing damage to the face and lungs.

If you see it happen to someone else, make them lie down ( knock them over if you have to) then try to smother the flames with whatever is to hand that is not immediately inflammable while someone else gets help. Throw water or any other non flammable liquid  or even the soil from a plant pot to douse the flames. Every second counts.

And pray you never have to need this information.

He's a psychopath, no doubts about it. Only a true psychopath devoided of empathy would be capable of doing something like that to people he doesn't even know. When he opens his mouth it's all about himself, not the victims.

What a nasty P.O.S. :bah:

Question. When something like this happens and the perpetrator is Thai and the foreigners hurt are in hospital through no fault of their own, who pays for the hospital and repatriation ?

unprovoked... half Thai population suffers from some spiritual mental disorder…  it will do wonders for Malaysian tourists influx

This has nothing to do with this case, safe or not safe country. It is simply a madman's action like you can find them anywhere in the world. You cannot prevent it, wrong time wrong place

True.

But I suspect that isn’t how it will play out in China. For example, most people don’t get kidnapped to work in a call centre in Myanmar, but I think that it is widely recognized that the experience of one individual had a negative effect on tourists originating from China.

I know the Thai job market out there right now is tough.... But really???.....

"He cited severe stress from unemployment as a motive. Previously a boxer, he had recently lost a job as a security guard and was struggling to find new employment."

So he decided to take out his unemployment frustrations by torching a couple of foreign tourists?

Whereas your first reaction was to look for something to moan about.

The video was shot from a height, probably the pedestrian overpass. Did you expect them to swoop down like Superman to the rescue?

No but I bet her bank balance is healthier than yesterday. ......

Clear cut case of entity attachment / demonic possession.

Not even gonna blame the marihuana for this one.

Also counts a long ways toward the #staysafe  #stayhome agenda pushers.

As usual I see dumb posts about thailand still being safer than uk or whatever woke country of the day.

The fact is the whole world has gone nuts due to wage gaps and inequality. I would argue that Thailand is more woke than canada, uk, aus whatever.... they literally let everyone in the country. It's much cheaper and safer to buy a ticket to  🇹🇭 than it is to pay a smuggler for a space on the boat to Europe. How many scumbags came to this country to do illegal things? THAILAND LETS EVERYONE IN!!!!

And having an empty stomach is certainly a motive to bad things when you've got nothing to lose. In Canada they keep these people in check on taxpayer's dime. Give them drugs, food and money. So the fentanyl zombies do have something to lose.

No one cares about hungry in Thailand.

Certainly well heeled people like BOB should be very careful talking about their wealth in Thailand.  Bob, you've got to stop bragging about your money. The only people who are impressed are the ones who are thinking about borrowing some.

A former boxer doused two Malaysian tourists with thinner and set them on fire outside a Major shopping mall in central Bangkok late on 7 August. The assailant was quickly restrained by bystanders at the scene.

Police at Lumpini Station were alerted to the violent incident near the mall on Ratchadamri Road, Pathumwan district, around 22:00. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Mr. Warakorn Pubthisong from Sa Kaeo province, was found with the thinner in a 1.5-litre plastic bottle and a lighter used in the attack.

The victims, Mr. Ong Yik Liang, 26 and Ms. Ken Siew Sian, 27, both Malaysian nationals, sustained burn injuries to their bodies and faces. They were rushed to Police General Hospital for treatment and are now reported to be in stable condition.

Eyewitnesses described seeing the suspect conversing briefly with the victims before they separated. The victims later sat on the mall steps when Mr. Warakorn approached, poured the thinner over them and ignited the liquid with a lighter. The two victims were saved by bystanders who intervened and extinguished the fires and subdued the attacker.

A Chinese tourist, who was approaching the area at the time, reported hearing shouting before witnessing the horrifying scene. “I saw a woman on fire, people ran to help, trying to put out the flames,” she posted on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. She later shared footage of the aftermath, which has since gone viral.

During police questioning, Mr. Warakorn admitted to the assault but denied any prior dispute with the victims. He cited severe stress from unemployment as a motive. Previously a boxer, he had recently lost a job as a security guard and was struggling to find new employment. He reportedly had not eaten that day, which compounded his distress.

WARNING VIDEO SHOWS SCENES FROM THE ATTACK.

Tests showed no presence of narcotics in his system. Authorities have intially charged him with grievous bodily harm.

Investigations are ongoing and further charges may follow, with the Malaysian tourists expected to provide statements when their conditions improve.

He should suffer the same punishment, light him up 🔥

I remember a post I made a couple of years ago about Malaysia and Indonesia being safer options than Thailand people mocked me due to them being ' Islamic' counties. It seems as if my opinion is aging well. Hopefully the couple recover well.

Thailand is weak when it comes to law enforcement and prosecution mainly due to corrutption & education so many grow up with no respect for the law and others whereas in a country like Singapore you do not see this type of behaviour, the culprits already know the consequences will be severe!!!
