Toyota Hilux V8 swap?

Featured Replies

I have seen some Toyota/Lexus V8 swapped Hiluxes in Thailand and have been pondering if I could do the same for my old Hilux Vigo. Does anyone have information or experience related to this?

- Is it easy/possible to do this legally so that all the changes are recorded in the  blue book

- any problems to get the normal 2nd/3rd class insurance for modified cars?

- any limitations on size/horsepower etc of the new engine?

- does anyone know reputable shops in Thailand that can do the swap?

- has anyone seen articles/videos about this kind of swaps that would provide more info?

- has anyone seen already swapped cars for sale, maybe I can save time by buying already modified cars

Any information or experience is much appreciated!

Easily done.

cost for a 1uz/auto engine combo 65k+

conversion costs vary on who does it, reputable places can sort the DLT stuff..... basicaly drive in drive out.... done.

Thank you for the replies so far, I’m after the reputable shop that could do the swap, recommendations appreciated!

And I just want V8 sounds, so V8 is the only option for me, not concerned about the power, tunability etc

I agree, if it not a V8, it's not worth driving. 😎

You're not a Westy, from Sydney are you? 👍

Where's your location?

I know a workshop in Pattaya, they may be interested in the conversion

Hilux comes with an inline 4cyl diesel.

The straight 6 2JZ will fit but it is a tight.

Hilux engine bay fits a 1UZ V8  just nice and has V8 sounds.

I’m not from Sydney, so had to look up the meaning of Westy and this is what wikipedia said:

"Westie is often stereotyped as people from the outer suburbs who are unintelligent, undereducated, unmotivated, unrefined, lacking in fashion sense, working-class or unemployed. Clothing such as flannelette shirts, Ugg boots, leopard-print fabric, Adidas outfits with stripes, and blue singlets are associated with the stereotype, as are the "uniform" of black T-shirt and ripped jeans.“

To which I have to say that I don’t wear ripped jeans! 🙂

The car is now in Isaan, but if there is reputable shop I can drive it to Pattaya for the swap. Main concern is that the shop knows what they are doing and preferably have happy customers as references.

I don't know where you got that meaning from, some Woke idiot made that up.

A Westy is a cool person, usually a tradie (tradespeople, electrician, plumber etc) from the western suburbs of Sydney.

He likes fast cars, prefers V8's.

As said, it was from wikipedia, here is the link:  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westie_(person)

Anyhow, cool person sounds better (and looks better as per the video clip)

If you have any more info about the V8 swap, please help to share
