At around 05:00 on 17 August, police and rescue workers were called to a serious road accident near the U-turn point by Pattaya South Highway Police Station, on Sukhumvit Road.

On arrival, emergency responders found a pick-up truck had collided with a motorcycle, throwing the victims onto the road. The pickup had then crashed into a food vendor’s stall outside a premises.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man was discovered in critical condition with no pulse. Rescue workers immediately performed CPR in an attempt to revive him.

Bangkok Hospital Pattaya dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance to assist in transferring the injured man. Despite urgent medical efforts, the victim was later confirmed dead.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with the pickup driver taken to the police station for tests and questioning.

One more data point.  The driver with 4 wheels and seat belts survived to be questioned and tested.

Apparently didn't even need to go to hospital.

If you can afford 4 wheels and seat belts, that's the way to go...

If you can't, use a taxi or the "baht bus".

Sadly the new wearing of helmets rules don`t appear to have gotten through to the majority.

RIP to the couple on the morcy...:jap:

What was the bike rider thinking,   surely  he can see the pick up coming,  but still crossed his path

Biggest threats to safety in Thailand are Motorcyclist and Pickup drivers, at least this time they kept the carnage to themselves.

I had a bad accident in OZ, lucky to be alive, ask me why? I never drive without fastening my seatbelt.

The rules are not enforced.... I was thinking this as I tried to cross 3rd Rd yesterday, counting those on motorcycles without helmets.  Seeing how this couple turned in front of this fast moving vehicle is  heart stopping.

Pattaya police have given up on enforcement after nearly two weeks' hard graft collecting 1000 baht 'fines'.
